Introducing our Studio Ghibli litter 🥹
Meet Totoro (m), Calcifer (m), Jiji (f), Ponyo (f), Teto (m; ADOPTED), Howl (m; ADOPTED), Matu (m; ADOPTED) & their mama, Kiki (f) 🧡
This little family came to us after we were contacted about a very young mama cat with seven kittens. Kiki was only 10 months old herself, and by the time she reached us, she was emaciated, incredibly stressed, and very sick with mycoplasma. She had no milk left and, understandably, wanted nothing to do with her babies.
Thankfully, the kittens were old enough to be weaned onto mousse, which meant we could separate them from mama and give Kiki the chance to recover. She was spayed and moved into her own foster home, where she could finally just be a kitten herself — playful, cuddly and the absolute sweetest little patootie.
But the kittens had their own battle ahead.
They too had mycoplasma, and things became scary very quickly. The morning after they arrived at GBC, we found little Ponyo lethargic and unresponsive and rushed her straight to Penzance, where she was diagnosed with mycoplasma. Then, one by one, the rest of the litter started to struggle too.
Calcifer was the tiniest of the bunch and had a particularly hard time gaining weight, but none of them were thriving the way we wanted them to. Between the runny poos, vomiting and being so unwell, their little bodies were barely putting on weight. It was a slow road back. There were good days, bad days and a few scary dips along the way. But once their medication started doing its job, we finally began to see those tiny numbers on the scale creeping upwards 🥳 Their coats started looking better, their little personalities started coming through. And slowly, these very sick babies became the happy, cheeky little kittens they were always meant to be!
Today, all eight are happy, healthy and we're ready to help them find the happy endings they deserve ☺️
