Meet the Chocolate Bar Litter 🍫
 This story is about a mama who gave everything she had to her little babas. Meet Twirl and her five babies who were dropped off at animal rescue organisation. When we met Twirl, our hearts sank a little. She’s a normal sized cat that should weigh around 4kg, but she only weighed 2.9kg. Just bones, big eyes, and five hungry babies depending on her, and she showed up for them even when her body was running on empty.

However, as the kittens grew, the demand on her body became too much, and she started struggling to produce milk, she wasn’t gaining weight, and was exhausted.
We always try to keep kittens with their mom as long as possible, but sometimes we need to prioritize mama's health. Just after the babies turned 4 weeks old, we sent Twirl off to her own foster home to heal and rest.

The kittens: Their canines had only just just popped out of their gums, our standard protocol for babies like this it to bottle feed. But this was a group of overachievers who were ready to cat. They litter box trained themselves at 3 weeks and had already started eating solid food off mom’s plate.

The lineup:
* Chomp (m; ADOPTED): He eats, sleeps, and spends his days flopped onto back for belly rubs. Built like a marshmallow, eats like a king.
* Crunchie (f): The clever one. She's the first to explore, to figure things out, and definitely the brains of every escape operation.
* Twix (f): The lover girl. A full on shadow kitten who follows you everywhere, meows at your feet to ask for love, and thinks your lap is where she belongs!
* Kit Kat (f): Our quiet, steady soul. Happy to just be present. Not the loudest or the boldest — but always nearby.
* Aero (m; ADOPTED): The quiet affectionate sweetheart. You walk in and he's already chosen your lap. He's soft, gentle, and just the most wonderful!
* Twirl (f): She's our miss chatty 🧡 she's loving and sweet, and just wants to be around you. Whether that's with you on the couch or asleep by your feet on the bed, she's the kind of cat that follows you from room to room.

Meet Dasha 🧡

If resilience had a face, it would be this tiny gremlin with airplane ears and zero sense of self-preservation. Dasha doesn’t carry her story like a tragedy, she carries it like a victory lap!

Dasha came to us with a broken front leg — a proper snap. We don’t know the full story, but it seems it may have happened during play with a young child who likely didn’t realise just how fragile kitten bones are. And that’s something we always gently remind families: kittens are soft, their bones are soft, their bodies are soft, so supervised play with young children is essential, and often older, sturdier cats are much better suited companions for little ones.

Dasha had surgery to place pins in her leg to stabilise the break while her body worked its magic and formed new bone. The plan was strict crate rest. Alas, Dasha did not agree to those terms 😅 From day ONE she was doing backflips in her crate, excavating her litter tray like she was mining for gold, climbing her crate, and wrestling her blanket into submission. We would walk in ready to enforce “calm recovery vibes” and she’d be mid-circus act. Because Dasha is a kitten (and apparently made up of pure determination), she healed quickly and had her pins removed in no time, which is great news for our sanity and hers 😂 now she gets to bound around with no restrictions 🧡

Dasha is a 5/5 parkour off the walls, grab your leg and hold on for the ride kind of kitten. She's chaos in the best way possible 🧡 but she's also a 5/5 affection, biscuit making, chest snuggling, purr into your soul kind of kitten 🥹 Dasha plays hard, lives loudly, and loves endlessly. It's so hard not to love her 🧡

Dasha would thrive in a home with supervised children who understand gentle play, or with another confident, high-energy kitten who can match her “no thoughts, just zooms” lifestyle.

This girl went from broken bone to bouncing off walls in record time, and we are just OBSESSED with her 🧡

Our kittens can’t Uber themselves to the vet (we asked).

We’re looking for kind humans with cars to help transport kitties between our Southern Suburbs foster homes and Gardens Vet & Spa (Gardens) / Penzance Vet (Hout Bay). Even helping once in a while makes a real difference — many of our vet visits only happen because someone volunteers their time and a car 🚙

All you need is a driver’s licence, a vehicle, and a bit of flexibility during weekdays 🧡

A little life update from me 🧡

Intake will be paused while I’m away in March, but adoptions are still open and our current kitties are very much ready to find their homes.

Thank you for being part of this community and for caring about these small lives with me. We’re just finding a new rhythm — not going anywhere 🐾

Introducing Phoenix (m) 🔥

Some stories arrive with neat beginnings. Phoenix’s did not.

A kind follower was handed a tiny kitten in a box by someone on the street. They said they were on their way to a job and would come back for him later. Sadly, they never did. But Phoenix hasn’t let that dull his little flame.

This boy is pure affection. He loves to be loved — properly, enthusiastically, and constantly. He accepts kisses like they’re his birthright. He melts into cuddles. He will follow you from room to room as if he’s been assigned the very important role of Personal Assistant to His Human. He loves to be held and will make air biscuits as a thank you.

He’s healthy, happy, and very ready for a forever home that won’t leave him waiting in a box.

Phoenix has already risen from a confusing start. Now he just needs somewhere safe to land 🧡

UP FOR ADOPTION: Miss Purple

Purple arrived at GBC as a tiny feral, unsure, watchful, and convinced that humans were highly suspicious creatures. Weeks of patient love, steady routines, and very committed fosters slowly changed her mind. She’s learned that hands bring comfort, laps are warm, and indoor life comes with sun patches and snacks.

Now? Purple is an absolute love bug, pro biscuit maker, and lover of scratches 🧡

Meet Lyra and Orion, our newest additions. Lyra and Orion have a different introduction post because they have a different story to tell.

They're safe now — but they still need help 🧡

Medically, Lyra had x-rays taken to ensure that the sensitivity to her sides were not old fractures causing pain, and full blood work was done on both cats to rule out underlying issues. Orion’s urinalysis still shows blood in his urine, so he remains on a specialised prescription diet as we treat his stress cystitis.

Healing trauma takes time — and resources.

UP FOR ADOPTION: Boi Boi

If you’re looking for a cat who will make you laugh, keep you company, and insist on being part of everything you do—Boi Boi is your guy.

Boi Boi is super goofy with a permanent little squint that somehow makes him even more charming. He’s got big, beautiful green eyes that give serious Toothless-from-How to Train Your Dragon vibes.

He’s bursting with energy and absolutely loves to play—chasing, pouncing, exploring… you name it. Despite his enthusiasm, he’s very gentle, usually keeps his claws in, and only ever gives the softest little love bites.

Boi Boi thrives on companionship and wants to be near his people as much as possible. He loves being the center of attention, but in the sweetest, most sociable way. And when evening rolls around, his playful side melts into full cuddle mode, and he’ll happily snuggle up close for some quality bonding time. He’s affectionate, well-mannered, and surprisingly polite (barely any counter surfing and zero interest in stealing food).

In short: Boi Boi is a wonderful, affectionate boy who brings love, joy, and a whole lot of personality wherever he goes 🧡
