Meet this week’s Small Business Friday Featured Business – ChilliPix

ChilliPix is a dynamic, all-in-one multimedia company delivering high-end photography, video, live streaming, branding, and print solutions to businesses across South Africa. Built on a vision to offer a complete visual service under one roof, the company has grown into a trusted creative partner for both corporate and community-driven projects.

The story of ChilliPix is one of resilience, reinvention, and relentless determination. Founded in 2008 by Eugene Nagel at just 22 years old, the business began as a small photography venture with limited resources and no formal tertiary education behind it. Early on, the journey was marked by financial strain and the steep learning curve of running a business. Despite these challenges, Eugene pushed forward, reaching his first million in turnover by the age of 24—an early sign of the potential that lay ahead.

Are we failing SMMEs or just failing to see them?

South Africa’s SMMEs are a major economic engine. But access to finance is still not working at scale.

There’s an estimated R350 billion financing gap*, driven largely by limited credit history and formal data. And in one estimate, 730,000** businesses were locked out of formal funding because they lacked proper financial records.

That’s the blind spot: Funding decisions run on confidence. Confidence runs on visibility.

In Episode 2 of Conversations That Matter, we unpack what needs to change across data, trust, and funder readiness so viable businesses can move from “unseen” to “investment ready”.

Watch the full episode now and join the conversation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRu7KbLPlaM

Do you think access is the problem, or is it visibility?
