Brick Club South Africa

Brick Club South Africa Brick Club SA is a donation-powered initiative bringing joy and creativity to kids with genuine LEGO® bricks and minifigures.

By partnering with community libraries, often the heartbeat of communities we create free and inclusive spaces for play. Brick Club South Africa is a donation-powered initiative that brings creativity, connection, and joy to children and teens aged 0 to 17 using genuine LEGO bricks and minifigures. We partner with public libraries and early childhood centres to create free and inclusive building s

paces where kids can explore, collaborate, and feel a sense of belonging. There is no teaching, no testing, and no pressure to perform. Just bricks, imagination, and the chance to connect. Our mission is to inspire creativity and promote sustainability by repurposing donated bricks and supporting child-led building experiences in under-resourced communities. We imagine a future where every community has access to playful connection, where creativity is nurtured, and where the building blocks of confidence are within reach for all children. Founded by SAFOLs and The Blockery, Brick Club SA is a grassroots effort powered by volunteers and donations. We are not affiliated with, endorsed, or sponsored by the LEGO Group. All LEGO trademarks and logos are the property of the LEGO Group. We use genuine LEGO products to spark imagination and bring communities together. First Meeting August 24 2024

What a privilege for Brick Club to form part of a creative and future-focused learning experience today! 🧱✨

Our LEGOⓇ parts were used during a Strengthening Innovative Library Leaders (SILL) Academy session, where library leaders explored innovation in a very practical and playful way.

The session was facilitated by René Walker and Malusi Radebe, Area Heads at Library and Information Services, and focused on helping participants move from ideas to action.

The LEGOⓇ building activity paired perfectly with the session’s reverse thinking and vision board activities. Teams first challenged old ways of thinking, then used LEGOⓇ to build their future-fit library ideas before turning those concepts into bold visual stories.

It was wonderful to see how simple bricks could help unlock big conversations about library spaces, community needs, user journeys and the future of libraries.

At Brick Club, we believe play is powerful — and today proved once again that creativity, collaboration and building with your hands can help shape new ideas for the future. 🧱🌟

Future-fit leaders do not wait for change. They build it.

Tuesday was an exciting and big day as we shared Brick Club SA with our partners.

Our Homeschool Club Leaders, Anneke, Lorinda, Pienky, and dedicated Youth Volunteer William, hosted a special homeschool Brick Club session for our guests. We wanted it to be a genuine experience so there was no speeches or fanfair. Just the kids playing and our guests observing. Before long they were sitting with the children and joining in the fun themselves.

We were honoured to host Brent Hutchenson from Care for Education, Karen from Educational Orientation at Care for Education, Henco Walker from Nazareth Care Africa, and Amé Landman Regional Wellness Coordinator from Nazareth Care. Also with us were Barry Kay from SAFOLs - South African Fans of LEGO and BCSA Director, Deon from The Blockery and BCSA Director, Chantal Steward Exco from Cape LUG - the Western Cape LEGO User Group, Milnerton Public Library Club Leader Thembi and Mr. Naidoo, and our liaison with Cape Town libraries aka our Mama Duck, René. A big thank you to the parents who made time and brought their kids to this special session.

The children’s imaginations and pure enjoyment of building created an atmosphere that was both energising and meaningful.

What stood out most was the strong alignment between all partners around growing this initiative. There is clear enthusiasm to expand Brick Club SA into more inclusive community and neurodiverse spaces.

We are thankful for support and partnerships like this as Brick Club SA continues bringing free creative and joyful sessions to children and families in the community.

Brick Club SA 🐥may still be growing, but partnerships like this make a real difference. Our partnership with Friends of Nazareth and Nazareth Care Africa means we’re turning new and pre-loved genuine LEGO® into Club Boxes for the community locations that host and run our free meetings.

More bricks mean more creativity.
More pieces mean more possibilities.
And most importantly, more children get the chance to build, imagine, and connect.

This partnership will also directly support something very important to us: the growth of our Neurodiversity Club and our ability to reach more children in more spaces.

At Brick Club, we believe in keeping it simple:
Play first.
Create freely.
Build together.

Our host locations open their doors, and the Club Boxes fill those tables with creativity, imagination, and shared opportunity.

We are truly grateful for this partnership and for every donation that helps more children gather, build, and play. Growing our vision - Every Child, Every Brick, Every Possibility.

If you have new or pre-loved genuine LEGO® bricks to share, please consider donating at any Nazareth House. Each donation becomes part of something bigger and helps place more bricks into the hands of children across our communities.

📍 Drop off at Nazareth locations in Cape Town, Pretoria, Durban, Port Elizabeth, or Harare

🎟️ Every donation goes into a raffle to win a special prize

To qualify for the raffle, for group drop offs or inquires please email Chipo with your name, contact details, drop-off venue, and date of drop-off: 📧 [email protected] or at 📞 076 910 6510

Our imaginative and fun Homeschool Club Leaders Anneke, Lorinda, and Neurodiversity Club Leader Pienky are brilliant. These are the kinds of ideas and engagement we love to see.

At Brick Club meetings, we suggest a theme to help spark ideas. Children can build with the theme or follow their own ideas and create freely. The purpose of each meeting is play and social connection across wide age groups of peers.

Take a look at what they will be doing next week.

The ground shook, buildings rattled… and every bridge in Brick Club City is gone!
This wasn’t just any earthquake - deep cracks are still spreading, and it’s too dangerous to rebuild.
Brick Club City is now split into scattered zones, with builds separated across the land… and no way to cross.
That’s where YOU come in.

Become an Elite Tower Builder. Build tall, strong towers and send zip lines high above the danger to reconnect the city.
⏳ Time is running out.
🌍 The ground is unstable.

Can you help save Brick Club City? 🐥🏬🚧

We’ve been busy refreshing Club Boxes at our existing locations.

Each box has been cleaned, dried, and reissued with around 10kg of genuine LEGO® parts. That’s about 2kg more than our first round, along with roughly 40 minifigures per site. With around 30 kids at a session, having more variety in parts and colours changes how they build. Different pieces lead to more ideas. The builds ate endless, and the kids keep going because there’s always something new to work with.

Libraries are also starting to make it their own. Themes are changing, some are linking into existing reading and holiday programmes, others are just letting the kids make the experience their own. Each location is finding what works for their community, which is exactly how it should be.

René, Area 6 Head Librarian, who gave us the spark right at the beginning, has been issued a Brick Club experience box. She’ll be using it for team building, communications meetings, and community events. We appreciate how she continues to carry Brick Club into new spaces and conversations.

The smiles from the librarians say everything. There’s a kind of joy in knowing their kids get to sit down, build, and just play.
