The Seals of Nam

The Seals of Nam Bringing the stench of the Namibian seal massacre to the nostrils of an indignant world. For more information visit our website at www.thesealsofnam.org

The Seals of Nam is a global initiative that had its humble beginnings in mid 2010. Founded by well known South African animal rights campaigner, Pat Dickens, The Seals of Nam aims to unite interested parties to bring the stench of the Namibian seal massacre to the nostrils of an indignant world. Initially nothing more than a pipe dream, Pat took on the the project with the guts and determination

of a true warrior. He resigned from his job in the corporate world and set about the task of raising awareness. Through his dedicated efforts, and in the face of immense opposition, through trials and tribulations, Pat worked towards getting the plight of the Cape fur Seals in Namibia the recognition they deserve. Today, The Seals of Nam is recognised as being on the forefront of the battle to end the Namibian hunt. Our successes can no longer be attributed to just one man, but to a multitude of respected organisations and a broad cross section of individuals. Through the collaborative efforts of many, The Seals of Nam has garnered the support of celebrities, had representatives appearing on national television networks, been guests on radio shows and staged successful demonstrations against the Namibian hunt in several leading international cities. We have generated major petitions, had news articles printed in local and international media, provided logistical support to Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, and even appeared before the Namibian Government along with major industry players such as IFAW, Seal Alert SA, WSPA, NSPCA, and others. We will continue to fight for an end of the Namibian hunt. We believe it to be unsustainable, illegal, immoral, uneconomical and a violation of human rights, as well as basic animal welfare standards. We encourage other organisations to join us in our initiative, to set aside any differences, and to put up a united front against the atrocities that are perpetuated on the Cape fur Seals. We would love to have you on board as the stronger our coalition becomes, the better our chances at putting an end to the brutal practice of seal clubbing.

Researchers at UC Davis say news they've dreaded since 2023 has come to pass: California's elephant seals have been infected with H5N1 bird flu.

Please leave the seals alone. Not only are they dangerous wild animals, they also carry multiple zoonotic diseases.

A second rabid Cape fur seal was confirmed in the Eastern Cape after it washed ashore at Sardinia Bay, showing symptoms like seizures and foaming at the mouth, and died shortly after. File Image.

What they gonna do next? Thrash another 86 thousand nursing cubs to death? Another mass o**y of violence on the beaches? More corruption from the fisheries minister? Continue to enslave seasonal workers by exploiting them with below minimum wages while they terrify entire herds? Causing stampedes where adult bulls trample pups to death, pregnant females self abort and pups vomit their mothers milk in fear? Pander to a Turk (Hatem Yavuz) by making him "honorary ambassador" and paying for his illegitimate "foreign office to Istanbul"
Or sell more seal pen*ses to fuel a perverse s*x trade for the East in contravention of CITES ll listed species and in blatant disregard for the Animal Protection Act, The Seals and Sea Birds Act? Or will they have some pathetic spineless and incompetent ombudsman like John Walters come up with more bu****it by declaring that seals are not animals? Or will they continue to ban any monitoring of the seal massacre, deport more ocean biologists and muzzle the media?
Yeah we know exactly where this is heading. And it's not good news.

Big developments for Namibia’s seal management.

The Namibian Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water & Land Reform has officially launched the Seals Sub-Sector Technical Committee (SSTC) — a new initiative aimed at transforming Namibia’s seal sector into a sustainable, responsible, and economically viable model.

As Ocean Conservation Namibia, we are watching this development closely. Seal management decisions have direct implications for marine biodiversity and ecosystem health.

We believe conservation and economic development can work hand in hand — but only when guided by science, transparency, and long-term thinking.

Since July, we've rescued an unprecedented number of sea lions suffering from leptospirosis 🦠 This potentially deadly kidney infection can transmit easily between these animals and dogs 😨 Here's what you need to know ⬇️

⚠️ Give wildlife at least 50 yards (half a football field) of space
🪧 Signs of leptospirosis include tucked flippers (as shown), drinking water and lethargy
📲 Call our experts to report marine mammals in need at 415-289-SEAL (7325)
💉 Vaccinate your pets at your local veterinary clinic
🦮 Leash pets to keep them away from wildlife and infected water sources

Even with treatment, roughly two-thirds of animals that strand with this infection do not survive. Please, help keep all animals - flippered and furry - safe and share this post to spread the word ↗️
