Play Has No Age Limit 🟥🟨🟦
Nazareth Care celebrated Mandela Day with a joyful and meaningful 67 Minutes of Play, Coffee and Conversation, bringing residents, staff and guests together for a morning of creativity, laughter and companionship.
The event took place in the Nazareth Care Conference Room, where tables were filled with colourful LEGO® bricks. Coffee and cake were served throughout the play session, creating a warm and relaxed atmosphere in which everyone could build, chat and enjoy one another’s company.
The initiative was made possible through the support of the Friends of Nazareth, in partnership with Brick Club South Africa, who provided the LEGO® play experience and supporting resources. Participants were encouraged to build freely, without rules, judging or competition. The emphasis was simply on enjoyment, inclusion and connection.
Residents, staff and guests quickly joined in the fun. As LEGO® creations began to take shape, the activity sparked laughter, stories and memories. The bricks became natural conversation starters, showing how a simple shared activity can help people connect in a relaxed and meaningful way.
As CEO of Nazareth Care, Henco Walker played an active role in hosting the initiative and engaging with residents throughout the morning. He joined participants at the tables, took part in the building activities and helped create a welcoming environment in which everyone felt comfortable participating.
Reflecting on the event, Henco highlighted the importance of spending meaningful time with residents:
“Engaging with our residents is about being present, listening and creating opportunities for them to feel seen, valued and connected. This initiative showed that even a simple activity can bring people together and create moments of genuine joy.”
The event demonstrated that play has no age limit. It was not about building the biggest or most impressive creation, but about sharing time, enjoying conversation and finding happiness in a simple creative experience.
The relaxed combination of LEGO® play, coffee and cake allowed residents, staff and guests to connect naturally. Some participants focused on their creations, while others shared stories, offered ideas or simply enjoyed watching the colourful activity unfold around them.
The morning reflected the true spirit of Mandela Day: giving time, showing kindness and strengthening community. It also highlighted the value of partnerships between Nazareth Care, the Friends of Nazareth and organisations such as Brick Club South Africa in creating enriching experiences for residents.

To help create more opportunities for play, creativity and meaningful engagement, Nazareth Care is inviting members of the public to support its ongoing LEGO® Drive.
New or pre-loved LEGO® bricks can be donated by dropping them off at any Nazareth House Charity Shop. Every donation will help make future play sessions and community activities possible.
