We started as Joe's Feeding Scheme in 2009 in loving memory of Yusuf 'Joe' Abrahams. We registered Journey Of Enrichment (J.O.E.) NPO 149-176 in 2015.

A rather late acknowledgement, but one we simply couldn't let go unshared.

On 22 July, as Cape Town prepared for a storm, we received a call from one of our supporters asking us to collect a donation of blankets.

To honour his birthday, he had asked friends and family to gift towards blankets for those in need.

The timing couldn't have been more perfect.

We received:
81 𝙡𝙖𝙧𝙜𝙚 𝙗𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙠𝙚𝙩𝙨
14 𝙗𝙖𝙗𝙮 𝙗𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙠𝙚𝙩𝙨

We immediately got to work, ensuring they reached those who needed them most before the storm arrived.

This is how they were distributed:
• 25 blankets to cancer home for adults
• 4 blankets to kids with terminal cancer
• 10 blankets to pensioners in dire need
• 42 blankets to unhoused humans
• 14 baby blankets to the Cape Doula Fahmieda | Certified Birth Doula for the The Zoe Project where they were distributed during Breastfeeding week

To be entrusted with a gift that could bring warmth, comfort and dignity to so many is something we don't take lightly.

We are deeply grateful for the role we get to play in our community — and for every person who helps make that possible. 🤍

Thank you for taking the time to contribute to our Drive.

While we did not have sufficient funds to fulfill our wish to make individual care packs, we did the best we could.

𝙎𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙏𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙠𝙨 𝙏𝙤:
The learners and staff at ferndale_primary_school for their pad donations.

𝘿𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙍𝙚𝙘𝙚𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙙:
• 192 packs of pads - between 8 and 10 in each
• 3 packs of pads - between 14 and 16 in each
• 6 packs of panty liners - 20 in each
• Monetary donations, which allowed us to purchase:
- 20 combo hair oil and hair food
- 20 pieces of ladies underwear

𝙊𝙪𝙧 𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙥𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨:
• Ons Plek Projects in Mowbray
• We enquired what their current needs were (which goes beyond pads, as is typically assumed)
• They are in need of a variety of sizes of underwear for the young women, especially in larger sizes + socks

Please consider reaching out to them, if you are called to support the home in any way that you can. The home is in need of maintenance and upgrades. Any and all support would be greatly appreciated.

These boxes were filled with so many delicious and lovingly baked goods from our donors.

• The young humans who spent their time with us today. You give us hope for a future that will continue to thrive on humanity and heart.

Cuppa JOE was born out of wanting to do something extra special for those living on the streets and it was well received - seeing the joy of receiving a box of treats packaged especially for each of them.

So we're doing it again! And we need your help!

We are made almost 300 boxes the last time we did this and we'd like get close to that number.

Greetings/ Assalaamu Alaikum J.O.E. Family

We have the opportunity to cook a warming, delicious and nourishing meal for the elderly, children and many who are hungry and in need.

Qurbani donations have so kindly reached us and we are keen to do something that takes us back to our humble beginnings.

We are particularly wanting to see our youth show up and get involved in this event but we extend the invitation to anyone who wishes to join us.

Together, we wil prep, cook and distribute!
Bring along your aprons, chopping boards, peelers, knives, friends and family.

We are deeply humbled and grateful for the overwhelming response to our drive, and for the opportunity to once again serve our communities during this special month of Ramadaan. 🌙
