Good morning, I trust everyone is well.
By way of an update and background note regarding Max, he has now been with us for approximately a week. He really is a beautiful boy and has settled into the household routine reasonably well. 7 year old Male Bouvier up for adoption. Strict adoption rules apply. Phone Sonja 083 260 2153 Max is situated in GAUTENG.
Max does not display aggression towards other dogs. However, he does appear somewhat uncertain when it comes to pack dynamics and understanding his place within a group. This is not unusual given that he has historically been an only dog. In my view he may do best in a home where he is the only dog, or alternatively with just one calm and stable companion dog rather than a multi-dog environment.
He walks well both on and off the leash without any issues.
It should also be noted that his back right leg was previously broken and unfortunately was never properly reset. As a result he walks with a noticeable gait and the strength in his back leg and hips is limited. For this reason a property with stairs should ideally be avoided unless his future home is able to arrange hydrotherapy or similar rehabilitation to help strengthen his hindquarters.
Max has a large frame but currently weighs only about 33 kg, which suggests that he is somewhat underweight and lacking muscle mass in the hindquarters.
As expected, separation anxiety is a significant issue for him and he has become very protective of his family unit, which now includes us.
By way of further background, the dogs in our household clearly recognise me as the pack leader. There is also another Kerry Blue Terrier (three years old) together with FiFi, the rescued Bouvier bitch. Those two have established a stable relationship and tend to alternate their position within the pack depending on the day. Max, however, appears uncertain as to where he fits within that structure.
For Max’s welfare it would be preferable that he moves to his permanent placement as soon as possible so that he can begin settling properly and avoid further trauma from multiple adjustments.
