Popcorn’s adorable little band of brothers is 8 weeks old and ready to take on the world - one wagging tail, one puppy kiss and one little paw at a time! 🐶❤️

These eight handsome boys are ready to start the next chapter of their lives, and we would LOVE to see each of them find a family to call their own.

🏡 LOOKING TO ADOPT?

Their adoption fee is R1,100, which includes their first vaccination, a microchip and sterilisation at 6 months of age.

We are also looking for loving foster homes to help give these little guys the best possible start in life.

On Wednesday, 14 October, we held another sponsored sterilisation drive for our local Brooklyn community as well as for a farm off the N7. 👩‍⚕️​🐾​

A HUGE thank you to Reddam House Atlantic Seaboard for making all 35 sterilisations possible! Your sponsorship has made a lasting difference to these animals and will prevent so many unwanted puppies & kittens from being born into already difficult circumstances.

We support sterilisation in Brooklyn several times a year, whenever funding allows. This time, we were also able to reach a farm that has been on our radar for weeks.

You may have seen dogs searching for food near the Wimpy on the N7, where staff and truck drivers often feed them. These dogs come from a nearby farm, home to a small community and their animals.

After several visits to assess the needs and register animals, we were able to sterilise 10 animals from the farm, vaccinate them, treat them for fleas and ticks, as well as provide food parcels. Two other dogs had already been urgently sterilised prior, leaving only a handful still to be done. As always, during the spay day, the Sterivet team made sure all the animals received the very best care.

Back at the farm, most owners have welcomed our help, and many of the dogs roam freely. We are working to improve conditions for just a few of the dogs. As always, if those efforts are unsuccessful, we will follow the appropriate channels.

And you may remember Popcorn and her nine puppies, also from this farm. They remain in our care. We are hoping to place the pups in foster homes as soon as possible, while helping Popcorn regain strength and weight. Once her puppies are safely in foster care and she has recovered, she can be sterilised before returning home.

This sweet little baby was thrown out of a moving car this morning😢. She is just a tiny little puppy. Luckily she did not get hurt, but she was quite shaken up.
She desperately needs a foster. We are struggling to find fosters, and already have 9 other puppies waiting in the wings for foster homes. Sadly we cannot help these animals if we don't have people signing up to foster. Please open your heart and home for this little girl.
We supply everything the foster animal will need and cover all medical bills.
This little pup is small and will probably be small to medium when fully grown.

Meet Jasper and Toast, two adorable little kittens who are looking for a forever home together! 🏡🐱

💙 Jasper is a handsome tabby boy with a whole lot of kitten charm.

🤍 Toast is a beautiful white girl who is just too precious.

These two are a bonded pair, which means they have a special connection and are looking for a home where they can stay together. Because why settle for one kitten when you can have twice the love, twice the entertainment and twice the cuddles? 🥰

Kittens are full of mischief, curiosity and playful antics, and Jasper and Toast are ready to fill their new family's home with joy, laughter and plenty of purrs.

Popcorn and her 9 babies arrived at our office last Thursday. Thankfully they are the last litter Popcorn will ever have to give birth to. She has clearly had many litters. Once Popcorn has put on a bit of weight we will sterilise her.

In the meantime, her 9 little babies need fosters who will love and care for them and get them ready for their bright futures. We want to make sure these pups go to the most wonderful homes, but we need your help to make that happen. The puppies will be ready for their foster homes by the end of the week.

We need 9 dedicated and committed fosters who will give these babies a roof over their heads and lots of love while we find their forever homes. We have adoption days coming up, which the pups can attend and get maximum exposure.

We provide everything your foster pup will need, from bedding, blankets, bowls and toys and we also cover any medical bills should your foster pup need the vet.

Elvis, Bayleigh and their cousin Ozzy😉 were all surrendered to us from the same home. Ozzy is 3 months old and Elvis & Baileigh are 2 months old. Ozzy and Elvis are males and Baileigh is a female.
These three pups have the most delightful personalities and are typical happy pups. Ozzy is a calm and relaxed puppy who loves to snuggle, while Elvis and Baileigh love to play with their toys. Bayleigh is a known toy hoarder! They are full of curiosity, playful energy and puppy kisses. With their wagging tails and irresistible faces, they’re at that wonderful age where everything is new and exciting.
They’re looking for loving homes where they can grow, learn, play and become cherished members of the family. Each has their own little personality, but they all have one thing in common - they deserve a future filled with love, kindness and cuddles. 🏡🐶

Meet Popcorn and her puppies 🐕

We recently spotted dogs gathering at an Engen garage off the N7, where staff and truck drivers feed them. We learnt they come from a nearby farm, so we visited and found a small community with dogs, some pregnant or with puppies.

Thankfully, most owners welcomed our help and agreed to sterilisation. We're educating the remaining owners about sterilisation and their legal responsibilities, and addressing 2–3 cases of poor living conditions, directly or through appropriate channels.

That's where we met Popcorn, who regularly visits the garage searching for food. There isn't enough for her at home, especially while nursing her puppies.

Her owners agreed to let us temporarily care for her and her babies, providing proper nutrition and monitoring their health. From experience, sadly we've learnt that when puppies are left until weaning, many are given away before we can collect them, often to unsuitable homes. Others die from illness, accidents or inadequate care. And like we thought, Popcorn's owners said they planned to give her puppies away real soon.

Whenever possible, bringing mom and pups into a safe environment through weaning protects them and allows responsible adoption placements.

Popcorn and her babies are now safe, and she's slowly learning to trust us. Her owners want her back. Once her puppies are weaned and fostered, we'll have to wait a bit before she is spayed and returned. This reduces the chance of surgical risks before she goes home.

We'll monitor the farm as best we can. There is a severe tick infestations causing illness and sometimes death, so regular parasite treatment will be an important part of our support.

Dedicated volunteers needed 🙋

We have an amazing opportunity to attend the beautiful Oranjezicht Farmers Market twice a month on Saturdays, and these market days are incredibly important for African Tails.

Not only do we raise much-needed funds through our merchandise stand, but we also create valuable awareness about our work, connect with the public and, very often, help spark potential adoptions. With two market dates each month, we’re looking to add to our already committed team of volunteers who can share the load by committing to 3–4 hour shifts at a time.

Volunteers will mainly assist with:
- Managing our merchandise stand
- Chatting to the public about African Tails
- Assisting with puppy and dog interactions alongside their foster parents.

What an incredible day it was celebrating World Animal Day this past Sunday! 🐾🧡​

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the day so special. It was wonderful to come together with so many different rescue organisations, all united by the same goal - celebrating all types of animals, recognising their importance in our lives, and creating greater awareness around their care, welfare and protection.

And we were especially proud to take part in the Rescue Parade and WIN the 'Most Effort' award! 🎉We were incredibly grateful to receive a donation as part of the prize, which will go straight back into helping the animals who need us most.

And a very special thank you to -A-While for putting together such a fantastic, fun-filled day!
