Today is the last day of Su***de Prevention Month, and we want you to know that we carry hope for you every single day of the year. When we say that we hope you stay, we don’t just mean we hope for things to continue the same. What we hope is that there are days where staying doesn’t feel so daunting. We hope there are moments where you look back and are glad you stayed. We hope there is support given to help you through whatever you’re facing.

We are holding onto hope for you, and we’re really glad you’re here. 🧡

Remembering Anton – 22 July 2020

Anton was someone I never met face to face, but I came to know him in the quiet hours of the night, through the Kindness SA group and through our late-night conversations. He was a gay man living with HIV, trying to survive one of the darkest years, 2020. A year that brought so many to their knees, but for Anton, it was even harder. No job. No money. No electricity. No support system. Just the weight of his circumstances and the silence of a world that often looked away.

We would talk at 2am, him pouring out his fears, me trying my best to listen, to comfort, to remind him that someone, somewhere, cared. His honesty and vulnerability were disarming. He didn’t sugarcoat his pain. He carried it openly, and yet, even in his struggle, there was this gentleness in him. A sweetness. A soul you don’t forget.

His death hit me harder than I expected. I think because it felt preventable. Because I’d heard his cries in the dark. Because he mattered. And because in a world that failed him too many times, he still found the strength to reach out and connect.

Anton, thank you for letting me in, for trusting me with your truth. You deserved so much more.

You are remembered. You are missed.

Unexpected kindness can transform a moment, as Tennessee Williams aptly captured "I have always depended on the kindness of strangers," a poignant reminder of how a stranger’s gesture can uplift us when least expected.

The 14th Dalai Lama noted, "When we feel love and kindness toward others, it not only makes others feel loved and cared for, but it helps us also to develop inner happiness and peace."

If you have the power to help someone in need, do it. The world needs more of that, with these unpredictable acts weaving a tapestry of hope, often appearing in the quiet corners of daily life, leaving lasting impressions.

We can let the circumstances of our lives harden us so that we become increasingly resentful and afraid, or we can let them soften us, and make us kinder. You always have the choice....always be kind❤️
