Bavumeleni Place of Hope hosts hiking experiences for kids at the organisation to learn and connect with nature and preserve it. This is another way for us to educate children on different ways they could use hiking as a coping mechanism or to keep their young bodies refreshed and energised.

Our beneficiaries are always looking forward to these hiking events, one could tell hiking is slowly becoming their favourite hobby, but we cannot blame them though, can we? Who can say No to a wilderness escape, a place where everything seems to be working out, the sound of birds and a connection to nature?

In African homes mental illness is not an illness, we are thrilled to have parents that are supporting and understanding, parents who ensures that these hiking experiences are hosted and are a success. It means a lot to the organisation that the parents encourage that we educate their kids on the importance of an overall health including taking care of their mental well-being even at tender ages.

As an organisation we always emphasise to the kids how much muscles it takes to frown than the muscles it takes for one to just smile and look at life on a different angle. Both the parents and their children now are aware that mental illness have nothing to do with age or race anyone is prone to such illnesses and it is okay to escape to nature occasionally just to get a breather.

We can never thank the parents enough for cooperating with us, it truly takes a village to raise a child and at Bavumeleni we are the village.

As we commemorate Freedom Month, we examine the significance of freedom to our organization. Freedom represents a secure environment where children can thrive, express their emotions, pose inquiries, engage in debates, learn and grow. To us, freedom is synonymous with the opportunities we cultivate daily in our after-school program.

We welcome volunteers and donors to join our cause. Please contact us to explore how your support can help keep our doors open.
