Seven new doggies on the steri list 😍

The current moving and rezoning has caused a lot of chaos and whilst owners are rebuilding, current conditions for the animals are not ideal but it is temporary.

One relocated doggie needed a collar to replace the chain and wire, his space is currently too small but it will be improved over the next few weeks.

Blackie seems to have what could possibly be an abscess under her eye and requires veterinary treatment. Her owner moved and simply left her behind, Blessing's owner is caring for her. Blackie and Blessing have become very bonded and if both can be sterilized, he is happy to look after both.

Brazil's stitches were removed and he is a happy chappy, blankets placed for some of our regulars too.

We were contacted yesterday regarding a little doggie that's been sleeping and hanging around the Astron garage in Voortrekker Street across from Point S Tyres (Brakpan) 🐶

She was being fed daily by people in the vicinity in the hopes her owner would come looking for her. Unfortunately she was also crossing this very dangerous main street with high traffic 😢

For her safety and the cold, we rather trapped her this afternoon as she was a little skittish. Sadly she is not microchipped. If you recognize her, please contact the Brakpan SPCA as she is now in their care. Let's get her home 🙏

💔 HEARTBREAK AND HEROISM AT THE WELTEVREDEN WASTE SITE 💔

​Early this morning, the Brakpan SPCA received a distress call from Sunny's Pet Outreach Team (SPOT) regarding one of the ex-Plastic City dogs who had managed to get her head trapped in a metal skip.

​With our Inspector, Mariska, currently confined to a moonboot and crutches, we immediately dispatched John and Mpumi to assess the situation and start rescue efforts. Mpumi called in to report the worst, but they refused to give up. When Inspector Mariska arrived on scene, they had managed to release her from the hole, but she was still trapped inside the massive skip—extremely bewildered, aggressive, and terrified.

​Thanks to quick thinking from everyone on site, she was safely secured into a crate and brought back to the Brakpan SPCA.

​The Hardest Part of Our Job

Unfortunately, this poor girl sustained severe injuries from being trapped in that metal hole for who knows how long. To prevent further suffering, the heartbreaking decision was made by all parties involved to humanely euthanise her. We are truly sorry for the hard life you had. Rest in peace and run free 🐾🌈

​🛠️ A CALL TO ACTION: HELP US HELP THE HEROES 🛠️
​During the rescue, two incredible security guards, Dlamini and Zitha, at the Weltevreden Waste Site stepped up without hesitation. They fought so hard with our team to free her that they actually broke their own bolt cutter in the process.

​Afterward, they shared their worry that they might get into trouble with their manager for breaking the tool. We want to applaud these men for putting an animal’s life first! That is true compassion.

​Can you help us replace their bolt cutter?
We want to get them a replacement immediately to ensure they don't face any consequences for doing the right thing. If you can donate towards a new heavy-duty bolt cutter, please can we ask for help to get a replacement Bolt Cutter??

We need help!!! We can't do this alone 😭

I'm am begging and pleading this morning! I've contacted the SPCA for help and they are en route. One of the guards at Weltevreden landfill phoned me but I was already out of Brakpan.

We don't know the extent of his injuries, just that he's alive, but this can't be how they die, a horrible painful, traumatic end, noooo!!!!! 💔

We are asking every security company in Brakpan, begging, pleading, to donate just one shift (one person) to help guard the trap for a few hours so it's not stolen so it can be setup for a few days 🙏
I'll be sending out emails today, we can't do this alone and if there's one thing that sets Brakpan apart is our community spirit and all we're asking for is time, not donations, not funds, just time and eyes please!

Thank you Brakpan SPCA for responding and being there for this soul, we'll update as soon as we have more info but there's more souls that could lose their lives in the same or worse manner and the only way to get them out is through trapping.

You know the saying - Birds of a feather....

When friends have the same mindset about animal welfare, then lives are changed 😍

So when Des drove past a herdsman with his two pups, obviously she stopped for a chat. Numbers were exchanged and adress provided 😬 This morning we paid a visit 🫶

Bruno and Tiger are well taken care of within his means but a little help is needed 🙏
During their initial conversation she mentioned sterilization.... No hesitation, not a maybe, just a plea and gratitude for any assistance in this regard. Not only are they brother and sister but he doesn't want more responsibility or mouths to feed than he can handle 😘

The pair needs a bigger kennel and we will make this happen. We gave some extra food, deworming and a comforter blanket for soft sleeps 🥱

We also said hello to the big fluffies with horns, one magogo is already 12 years old and mother/gran to most of the others 😬

One person cared to stop, engage and be the difference for these doggies 😊

Today we spent a few hours searching for the remaining dogs living in ex-Plastic City/Weltevreden landfill 👀

Although we didn't see them, we now know the predominant area they spent time in, possibly sleep as well. The area they move in is vast, stretching all the way from the memorial site across the road right into the landfill, up to Anzac circle and the back of The Rock Raceway.

There are pups as well, likely around 4 to 6 months old based on descriptions and footprints, born and surviving in the bushes, away from humans, probably entirely feral 😥

We can set up the trap repeatedly but require someone to have eyes on it all times to avoid theft of it and not leave captured dogs inside for extended periods... Challenging but not impossible 🤞

Took Brandy to the vet yesterday afternoon, a big and strong girl with the most gentle nature 😍 She received antibiotics and will feel better soon 👌

Buksie's been booked in this morning for his regular ear cleaning due to a chronic condition 👂 Unfortunately touching his ear otherwise brings out the vampire in this usually sweet boy 😘

Our precious girl is loving life and sunshine ☀️
She thoroughly enjoys basking in the sunlight and enjoys every moment of her life ❤️

Sally has settled in so well like she's just always been part of the family and her life before never existed 😘

Thank you family for taking care of and loving her, she is truly happy ❤️
