Name and Surname: Donna Chidi

1. How did you benefit the most from participating in the TTP?
It helped me more with communication skills more than anything else. I would have spent the whole day without talking to my classmates, but now it is a thing of the past. Also being able to get an understanding on how university looks like and to talk to people who shared their university life with us.
2. What motivated to choose your current career field and how did the TTP assist?
The mentors talking about their fields of study played a major role in me going to the Maths field, as well as the fact that the world is increasing its focus on technology and I wanted to contribute to the field and grow more.
3. Describe what you do on a daily basis.
I analyze data in an insurance company that I work at. I write few scripts to get information from the database and also test the system during regression testing to check if my processes (and work) are still working well after deployment.
4. What do you enjoy most about your job?
Writing SQL Scripts and analysing using Power BI and Excel, and just learning about insurance and how data and risk management works: Insurance companies help individuals and businesses manage risk by providing financial protection against potential losses, and that alone is what makes me enjoy my job.
5. What do you enjoy least about your job?
System errors and having to work overtime into testing after fixes on the error.
6. How do you overcome your challenges? What in your experience in the TTP helped you develop those skills?
TTP taught me that once I have identified the challenge, I need to develop a plan to overcome it, which involves breaking the challenge down into smaller, more manageable steps, and setting goals for each step. Seeking support and good communication are also important as I am no longer hesitant to ask for help or support from my team leader or supervisor at work.
7. What tips do you have for anyone wanting to work in the same field?
Work hard in your Stats, Maths and Computer Science as they play a major role in the field, and also work a hard at university.
8. Words of wisdom to the current cohort of TTP learners and encouragement for the current matriculants.
Believe in yourself: You have worked hard to reach this point, and you are capable of achieving great things. Believe in yourself and your abilities, and don't be afraid to take risks and pursue your dreams.
Embrace change: Life after matric can be full of changes and uncertainties. Embrace these changes and use them as opportunities to learn and grow. Set goals. Setting goals is an important part of achieving success. Take the time to set clear, achievable goals for yourself, and work towards them every day.
Seek guidance. Don't be afraid to ask for help or guidance when you need it. Seek advice from teachers, mentors, or other trusted adults who can offer support and guidance.
Stay focused. It's important to stay focused and committed to your goals, even when faced with challenges or distractions. Keep your eye on the prize and stay motivated to achieve your dreams.
