Woke up to sad news this morning learning of the passing of legendary Mangaung Fire & Rescue officer, Mr Chris van der Walt. Not only a friend over the years, but also a mentor to many in the service. Our condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.

Extensive damage was caused to a residential property in a townhouse complex in Boerneef Street, Langenhovenpark earlier this evening after it caught fire whilst the occupants were not home. Mangaung Fire & Rescue, Fidelity Secure Fire & Fire Ops SA together with other services attended the scene and the fire was brought under control quickly. One bystander was treated for smoke inhalation on scene and transported to hospital for further care by ambulance. Various services responded to reprts of a serious motor vehicle accident on the N1 close to Verkeerdevlei on Sunday morning. On arrival it was found that one person sustained moderate injuries in this two-vehicle collision. All the other occupants of both vehicles were fortunate to have escaped without any serious injuries and all declined any further treatment. The patient was stabilised on scene before being transported to the Rosepark Hospital in Bloemfontein for further care.
