Hey 👋

I am working closely with an NPO in Grabouw called House of Grace. They house mentally and physically disabled children. I desperately want to get each of the children an electric toothbrush to improve their oral hygiene.
I currently need to purchase 10.

They are on discount at dischem currently. I’m going through to Cape Town next week. I want to purchase the toothbrushes then & deliver them on the 26th of August.

I’m rallying this Beautiful village. Is there anyone who would be willing to donate the money for a toothbrush or two?

I used to think love was measured by hugs, kisses, and the words, “I love you.”

Autism has completely changed that.

Love can look like a little hand reaching for yours because you’re their safe place.

It can look like someone bringing you a random object because they wanted to share a moment with you.

It can look like sitting next to you in comfortable silence.

It can look like carefully putting the dog’s food back into her bowl because helping simply felt like the right thing to do.

Onyx may not tell me he loves me with words, but he tells me every single day in ways that are easy to miss if you’re only looking for the kind of communication the world expects.

Autism hasn’t taken love away. It has simply taught us to recognise a different language.

And once you learn to speak that language, you realise it’s been saying “I love you” all along. 💙🪽

Before I became Onyx and Lavender’s mom, I thought love was enough.

I thought if you loved a child deeply, everything else would fall into place.

The truth is, love is the foundation—but it doesn’t magically make autism easier. It doesn’t stop the sleepless nights, the meltdowns, the endless appointments, or the uncertainty about the future.

There are days when I feel completely defeated. Days when I cry after the kids are asleep. Days when I wonder if I’m doing enough.

But then there are moments that remind me why we keep going.

A spontaneous cuddle.
A new skill they’ve worked so hard to learn.
A smile that lights up the whole room.
A tiny victory that most people wouldn’t even notice.

Autism has taught me to celebrate progress instead of perfection. To slow down. To find joy in the smallest moments. To measure success differently.

If you’re a parent on this journey, I hope you know this:

You don’t have to have it all together.
You don’t have to pretend it’s easy.
You can be exhausted and grateful at the same time.

Both things can be true.

And if you’re someone following our journey, thank you. Every kind comment, every share, every word of encouragement reminds us that we aren’t walking this path alone. 💙🪽

Different Doesn’t Mean Less

Onyx may not use words to tell us he loves us.

Instead, he reaches for our hand.
He leans against us.
He smiles.
He laughs.
He invites us into his world in his own beautiful way.

Communication isn’t just spoken words. Love is spoken in a thousand different languages. 💙🪽

Autism Doesn’t Clock Out

Autism doesn’t take weekends off.
It doesn’t disappear after school.
It doesn’t stop when everyone else goes to bed.

For families like ours, it’s a 24-hour, 7-day-a-week journey filled with love, exhaustion, laughter, and resilience.

The Little Things

Sometimes people think progress has to look big to matter.

But in our home, progress looks like making eye contact for a second longer. Holding a hand. Trying a new food. Cleaning up a spilled bowl of dog food without being asked.
