What kind of humanity do we want to be?

In his first encyclical, Magnifica Humanitas, Pope Leo XIV reflects on artificial intelligence, human dignity, work, war and the common good in the digital age.

Presented at the Vatican today, the document calls for technology to remain at the service of humanity, warning against systems driven by domination, exclusion and inequality.

As Pope Leo writes, AI must be “disarmed” from the logics that turn it into an instrument of death and control.

Today marks the anniversary of Laudato si', the encyclical in which Pope Francis called the world to recognise its responsibility toward our common home.

At its heart is a truth that remains urgent: an ecological debt exists between those who have polluted the most and those who are paying the highest price. Communities on the frontlines of the climate crisis bear the consequences of choices they did not make.

On this anniversary, we urge action to turn that debt into hope.
