🚨Zolani Tete Allegedly Shot Dead in Mdantsane

Former two-weight world boxing champion Zolani Tete was allegedly shot and killed at his home in NU17, Mdantsane, on Friday evening.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed that a 38-year-old man was shot at about 6.30pm while arriving at his home. Police said two armed suspects wearing balaclavas came from a vehicle and opened fire on the man and a 27-year-old woman who was with him.

The man drove into the yard while trying to escape the shooting, but he died at the scene. The woman suffered several gunshot wounds and was taken to hospital, where she remains under medical care.

SAPS confirmed the incident but did not reveal the identity of the deceased. Police said the name would only be released after his family had been informed. No arrests have been made, and the reason for the shooting is still unknown.

Buffalo City Metro Executive Mayor Councillor Princess Faku expressed her condolences to Tete’s family, friends and the boxing community. “Buffalo City has lost not only a champion in the boxing ring, but one of our own sons who carried the name of our city with pride onto the international stage,” she said
Mayor Faku described Tete as a symbol of “determination, discipline, resilience and excellence”. She said his achievements had inspired young people and that his legacy belonged to his family, the boxing fraternity and the entire city.

She also condemned the violence and called for justice. “As a city, we condemn this senseless violence. We call on law-enforcement agencies to leave no stone unturned in bringing those responsible to justice,” Faku said.

The alleged killing comes weeks after Tete returned to boxing following the end of his four-year suspension. The Mdantsane-born boxer was a two-division world champion and held the record for the fastest knockout in a world title fight.

🚨 4 KILLED, 4 SERIOUSLY INJURED IN M4 HEAD-ON CRASH IN GQEBERHA

Four people have been killed and four others seriously injured following a head-on collision between a Volkswagen Polo and a minibus taxi on the M4 in Gqeberha on Saturday morning.

The crash happened at approximately 05:30.

According to Eastern Cape Department of Transport spokesperson Unathi Binqose, the Volkswagen Polo was carrying six people when it collided with the oncoming minibus taxi, which had two occupants.

“Four occupants of the Polo were killed, while the remaining two occupants sustained injuries. Both occupants of the minibus taxi also sustained serious injuries,” Binqose said.

Preliminary information indicates that the Polo was travelling from Summerstrand towards Deal Party when it allegedly crossed the centre median, broke through the guard rails, and ended up in the path of the oncoming taxi.

The minibus taxi was travelling in the opposite direction, from Deal Party towards Summerstrand.

Binqose said the circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.

“A case of culpable homicide has been opened with the South African Police Service for further investigation. The exact circumstances surrounding the crash are yet to be determined,” he said.

The latest crash adds to ongoing concerns about road safety and the devastating impact of serious collisions on Eastern Cape roads.

The Department of Transport has extended its condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

Motorists have once again been urged to exercise extreme caution, remain vigilant, and obey the rules of the road.
