Today the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) puts into action the SAMSA Corporate Social Investment (CSI) Clean-up Initiative by joining the community of Alexandra in a much-needed clean-up operation to help restore the Jukskei river.

The SAMSA CSI Inland Waterways and Ocean Clean-up Initiative is a programme aimed at promoting environmental sustainability through collaborative partnerships with community organisations.

The programme seeks to restore inland waterways while advancing environmental stewardship, community participation, employee volunteerism and meaningful stakeholder partnerships in support of SAMSA's sustainability agenda.

The Alexander Water Warriors, a community-based environmental organisation operating in Alexandra, Gauteng, was identified as a strategic implementation partner for the pilot clean-up programme along the Jukskei River.

SAMSA is very proud to be able to partner with and support this incredible initiative as we observe Mandela Day and reflect on the call to action for individuals, communities and organisations to reflect on Mandela’s values and principles, and to take meaningful steps to make a positive impact in our own communities.

We hosted a team from Discovery team for an educational team-building experience along the Jukskei River.

Together, we explored the river, visited our beautiful community park, and reflected on how environmental restoration can transform communities. The highlight of the day was turning a former illegal dumping hotspot into a medicinal garden, proof that neglected spaces can become places of growth, healing, and hope.

We are grateful for the inspiring conversations, positive energy, and genuine appreciation shown for the work happening on the ground.

To everyone reading this: come see it for yourself. Walk the park. Visit the river. Experience the transformation.

Growing more than gardens — growing futures.

Blueberry Hill Landscapes is proud to be part of a powerful CSR project in Alexandra, alongside Alexandra Water Warriors NPC, Greenpop and Discovery South Africa

Together, we are helping transform a community space into a greener, safer, more inspiring environment where children can learn, play, connect with nature, and feel proud of the world around them.

From planting and composting to play spaces, paving, education areas, and practical site upgrades, this project is a reminder that landscapes can create real social impact.

Thank you to everyone involved in bringing this vision to life.

This is what purpose-driven landscaping looks like.
