Well done for speaking out Gemma and raising awareness, Jades Law was supposed to stop this happening, hopefully authorities will think more about protecting childrens rights and stop perpetrators doing further harm ###x

Gemma Ahern was three when her dad killed her mum - and at six she had to live with him again.

Mother’s Day can be a difficult time for children and young people who are missing their mum, grandmother, or someone who was like a mum. Big feelings are normal, and gentle support can help them remember in their own way:

💜Younger children: activities such as crafts, drawings, or stories to express their feelings.
💜 Primary-aged children: writing a card or letter, or sharing memories.
💜 Teens: journaling, exploring creative outlets, having open conversations, or engaging in meaningful activities.

There’s no right or wrong way to remember.

Today, on Mother's Day, I honour the memory of my beloved mother — a woman whose love was deep, whose spirit was strong, and whose presence shaped my very being. Though she is no longer physically with me, her love continues to light my path every day.

My mother was a beacon of kindness and courage, someone who gave all she had to nurture and protect her family. Her love was a sanctuary — a place where I always felt safe, valued, and cherished. Even in the face of unimaginable hardship, her warmth and strength never faded.

While life took a tragic turn, and the pain of her loss is something no child should ever endure, her memory remains a powerful force in my life. It drives me to create support and healing for children like me, who have lost their mothers too soon to circumstances beyond their control.

To my mother, thank you. Thank you for your love, your sacrifices, and the lessons you taught me through your life. Your spirit is with me in every step I take, and your love is the foundation on which I build hope and healing — not just for myself but for others who need it most.

Today, and every day, I honour you.

Happy Mother’s Day, with all my heart.

This Mother's Day we're thinking of everyone who is missing their mother, mothers who are bereaved of a child, those who would have loved to be mothers, and all those who can't be with their mother today, for whatever reason.

I was recently attacked by a man simply for supporting the important work of Violence Against Women (VAW). As usual, his response was, "What about male victims?"—a line I hear far too often.

Let me be clear: VAW focuses on women because they are overwhelmingly the victims of domestic abuse, and that focus is vital and necessary.

At the same time, I recognised a serious gap in support for children bereaved by domestic abuse. The majority of these children lose their mothers to male perpetrators, while some lose a parent when the mother was the perpetrator. All of these children are often forgotten—and that’s why I founded CatchU: to fill that critical void. I do not blame VAW for forgetting them—that’s simply not their focus.

If you’re frustrated that I support women and children bereaved by domestic homicide, rather than attacking me, ask yourself why you’re not channeling that energy into creating or joining organisations that support male victims. They do exist, and there are groups focused on them.

I’m not here to argue or compete over who deserves attention—I’m here to do the urgent work that no one else was doing. Let’s respect each other’s roles, support those in need, and stop tearing down those trying to make a difference.

🌸 International Women's Day 2026 🌸

Today, we celebrate the strength, courage, and resilience of women everywhere. At CatchU CIC, we especially honour survivors of domestic abuse—those women and children who have faced unimaginable pain but continue to stand tall and find hope.

Domestic abuse shatters lives, but through support, understanding, and community, healing is possible.

I am Diane, CEO of CatchU CIC, and I know firsthand the pain that domestic homicide leaves behind. My own story inspired me to create support for children bereaved by domestic abuse—because no child should be left to face trauma alone.

📚 You can help make a difference.
By purchasing my book, Daughter of a Murderer, at books.by/catchu (https://books.by/catchu), you are not only reading my personal journey but also directly supporting programs that will provide hope and healing to children affected by domestic abuse.

Let’s stand together to create a safer, kinder world for women and children. Your support matters. Your voice matters. Your choices matter.

We call on the UK Government to introduce legislation that explicitly prohibits perpetrators of domestic abuse from being granted custody or unsupervised access to their children if it has been established that their abuse has likely contributed to the other parents su***de.

Most of CatchU's members have struggled with this for many years.
