Our mission is to promote knowledge, understanding, and practice of the various aspects of the Chinese culture while taking clothes culture as a start point. Our mission is to promote knowledge, understanding, and practice of the various aspects of the culture of Han ethnicity while taking clothes culture as a start point. Hanfu refers the traditional clothes of Han Ethnicity, the majority ethnici

ty of China. Despite having a history as longs as almost 4000 years, it was banned during Qing Dynasty as a part of a series of restrictive cultural policies aimed to obliterate ethnic identities. The policy greatly hurt clothing diversity in China and Hanfu lied dormant and was almost extinct for the next 300 years. Meanwhile, the new uniformly dictated clothing style, largely based on traditional Manchu design, became the image of China and has been known as "Mandarin coat" in the English speaking world (e.g. 旗袍, qipao, 馬褂 magua, etc.) Regarding Hanfu, our effort is to promote its knowledge, reintroduce its usage - both daily and festive, and help building a more comprehensive and accurate representation of the diverse and beautiful clothing traditions of China. As Hanfu is deeply connected with many other aspects of Han culture, we also explore its value in community building and as a gateway to the rest of the traditional Han cultural practices.
