We are a privately operated, non-profit organization dedicated to researching, recovering and repatriating US servicemen still unaccounted for. We are committed to searching and recovering missing servicemen, ensuring a proper resting place befitting with the measure of their sacrifice and bringing closure to families. The 99th Division MIA Project is the creation of Dick Byers and Bill Warnock. A

fter the accidental discovery of PFC Alphonse Sito’s grave by Belgian searchers Jean-Philippe Speder and Jean-Louis Seel, Byers and Warnock concluded that a deliberate search for missing servicemen might yield results. Four decades later, the results have exceeded everyone’s expectations. Join us at : www.miaproject.net.

Many friends of the 99th Division who traveled to Belgium made a stop at the beautiful "Remember Museum" of Marcel and Mathilde Schmetz. We are sad to inform you that Marcel passed away yesterday, January 20, at age 92.
The visit of the M&M's museum, as it was known among veterans, always appeared on the program of 99th Division battlefield tours. Marcel and Mathilde have welcome thousands of US veterans and were still very active with ABMC, patriotic associations and EU based US troops. He will be missed by so many.
We present our most sincere condolences to Mathilde and her family.

The 99th Division was the first complete infantry division to cross the Rhine River at Remagen.
Captured on March 07, 1945 by elements of the 9th Armored Division, the bridge became the objective #1 for the German Army. It had to be destroyed at all cost to stop the continuous stream of US troops crossing the river. Numerous attempts took place but with limited results.
On March 17, 1945, ten days after its capture, the bridge eventually collapsed in the Rhine, taking with him 26 engineers and inflicting wounds to 96 US servicemen.
Most of the official reels and pictures of the 99th Division in ETO are known and have been shown numerous times, especially concerning the crossing of the Rhine at Remagen.
A recent TV show presented the story of the Remagen bridge, again showing the same movie clips seen a million times before. Though, a 5 second piece of the reel revealed 99th Division aid men carrying soldiers wounded in the collapse of the bridge. These 5 seconds were unknown to us, 99th Division addicts. Maybe someone would recognize those medics. A long shot in the dark buy who knows…

This week end marks the beginning of the 81st anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge. The first ceremony took place at the Elsenborn Ridge Memorial where Commander Thierry Crèvecoeur, commander of Camp Elsenborn, and Mr. Rainer Stoffels, Mayor of Büllingen, welcomed local patriotic associations and visitors from Belgium and USA for the annual Bulge commemoration. The ceremony was highlighted by children of Krinkelt - Rocherath school presenting a poem and laying flowers at the memorial.

Dare All Dangers chronicles the 741st Tank Battalion in World War II. The narrative captures the sights, sounds, and emotions of American soldiers engaged in armored warfare. It is the true story of tank crewmen fighting their way from Omaha Beach to the heart of Hitler's Third Reich. The publication features 140 photographs—many of which are unpublished—and 12 maps.

Available on December 15, this book covers the resistance of the 1st Battalion of the 394th Infantry at Losheimergraben. The author, Debby Plankers, daughter of 1Lt Dewey Plankers, based his book on her father's recollections. Lt Plankers' name is mentionned in several books but his story has never been told until now. The determination of a small group of Americans and their leader, Lt Plankers, to hold at all cost turned the tide of the battle at Losheimergraben.

The Elsenborn Ridge, the "little round top" of the Battle of the Bulge, still releases some of its hidden past.
This leather purse was recovered on the Ridge, in a foxhole where men of the 2nd Battalion of the 393rd Infantry were dug in. Well marked "souvenir of Dallas, Texas" the purse contained a few british coins, remnants of a short stay on the island before the deployment on line. The owner is unfortunately not identified.
