Meet Peaches 🍑

Peaches is a 3.5-year-old bully mix now ready to find her forever home.

She is currently living as the only pet in her foster home, but we believe she could do well with a calm, respectful dog after a slow and proper introduction. Peaches isn't interested in chaotic puppy antics and would prefer a canine companion who matches her more laid-back energy. Due to her strong prey drive, shes not suitable for a home with cats or other small animals.

When Peaches first arrived, she was understandably scared and shut down after leaving the only family she had ever known. During her adjustment period, she briefly displayed some resource guarding around food and toys. Thankfully, with time to decompress and settle into foster care, those behaviours have resolved and have not been an issue since.

Because of her initial resource guarding history and lack of exposure to young children while in foster care, we feel Peaches would be best suited to a home without small children.

Now let's talk about what makes Peaches special: she absolutely LOVES people! ❤️

Whether she's meeting new friends on a walk or greeting visitors at home, Peaches is always thrilled to make a new human connection. She is social, friendly, and genuinely enjoys being around people.

Peaches knows a variety of basic commands and is highly food motivated, making training both easy and enjoyable. She's house-trained, crate-trained, loves car rides, and is always happy to tag along on an outing.

Overall, Peaches is a pretty low-maintenance girl. She enjoys spending time in the backyard, going for walks, and then curling up on the couch for some quality cuddle time with her humans.

She's not exactly an adventure enthusiast—rain, snow, extreme heat, and bitter cold are not her thing. Peaches' perfect day is a sunny 18°C afternoon spent lounging in the yard and soaking up the fresh air. ☀️

She's confident, easygoing, and takes life's little surprises in stride. Busy households, guests coming and going, and everyday chaos don't bother her one bit—in fact, she's usually excited to meet everyone!

Happy Tails, Jasper! 🎉

We welcomed Jasper at the end of April after he was surrendered to Animal Control. From the moment he arrived, he proved to be an absolute sweetheart and quickly became a favorite among our volunteers and fosters.

Jasper settled seamlessly into one of our experienced foster homes, where he made himself right at home alongside the resident dogs and cats. His easygoing nature and lovable personality made it impossible not to fall in love with him!

While in foster care, Jasper caught the eye of one of our longtime volunteers and past adopters. After losing a beloved member of their pack, they felt Jasper would be the perfect addition to their family—and they were right. ❤️

Since joining his new home, Jasper has quickly stolen the hearts of both his humans and his furry siblings. We couldn’t be happier that he found his forever family with people we know and trust.

Now that he’s been neutered, his adoption is officially finalized, and Jasper is finally home! 🏡

Congratulations, Jasper! We know your future is filled with love, adventures, and countless happy memories. We can’t wait to watch you grow and thrive with your forever family.

Happy Tails, Maggie! 🎉

Maggie joined us in April after being rescued from a backyard breeding situation. Thankfully, her littermates were also brought to safety through other rescues, and we’re thrilled to share that they have all found their forever homes as well. 💝

After arriving in foster care, Maggie settled in beautifully. She quickly flourished, becoming best friends with the teens in her foster home while also enjoying the company of the resident dog and cat. Watching her confidence grow was such a joy!

Maggie had no shortage of admirers and received many wonderful applications, but we’re excited to celebrate that her adoption has officially been finalized! 🥳

She has joined a fantastic family that includes a Frenchie and even backyard chickens. We can’t wait to see her Great Pyrenees instincts shine as she settles into her new home, embraces her new adventures, and perhaps takes her role as flock supervisor very seriously. 🐔🐾

Congratulations to Maggie and her forever family — we wish you a lifetime of love, happiness, and tail wags together!

We have some difficult news to share.

After months of planning, organizing, and promoting, we have made the decision to cancel our upcoming wellness retreat fundraiser due to a lack of registrations.

To say we’re disappointed would be an understatement.

The reality is that fundraisers like this aren’t “extras” for rescues like ours. They help pay for veterinary care, emergency medical cases, food, supplies, monthly preventatives, and the day-to-day expenses that come with caring for animals who have nowhere else to go.

Right now, Hank’s Haven has numerous dogs in care, including sanctuary and special-needs animals who rely on us every single day. Their needs don’t stop because a fundraiser was unsuccessful.

Monthly preventatives alone cost thousands of dollars. Annual exams, vaccines, heartworm testing, medications, spay/neuter surgeries, and emergency medical care add up quickly. And when adoptions slow down—as they have this year—the financial pressure becomes overwhelming.

We have always done everything possible to say “yes” when animals need help. But the truth is, we are reaching a point where that may no longer be possible.

Without additional support, we will be forced to continue limiting intakes and turning away animals in need. If things do not improve, the future of Hank’s Haven itself becomes uncertain.

That is an incredibly difficult thing to admit.

No interest in Fancy? 💔

We’re honestly a little surprised.

Fancy is a beautiful, pocket-sized German Shepherd mix weighing just 55 lbs. While she may look like a mini German Shepherd, her personality is much more cattle dog—which we believe makes up a large part of her DNA! Smart, driven, athletic, and always ready for an adventure, Fancy is the kind of dog who loves having a job to do.

At 3.5 years old, Fancy is past the puppy stage but still has plenty of energy and enthusiasm for life. Some of you may remember that when she first arrived in our care, she was pregnant and soon welcomed a litter of adorable puppies. ❤️ Every one of her babies has found a loving forever home, but Fancy is still waiting for her turn.

It’s hard to understand why, because she is such a wonderful dog.

Fancy is incredibly intelligent, eager to learn, and already has some training under her belt. She would thrive with an active family who wants a companion for hiking, adventures, training classes, or even dog sports. She has so much potential and genuinely loves working alongside her people.

Her ideal home would be without small children and, ideally, with another dog to help keep her company.

After raising her puppies and watching them all leave for their forever families, we would love nothing more than to see Fancy finally get the happy ending she deserves. 🏡✨

Here at Hank’s Haven, we spend countless hours caring for animals in need. We pour our hearts into every rescue, every recovery, and every second chance. But caring for others—whether they have two legs or four—can take a toll on our minds, bodies, and spirits.

Happy tails, Bruno (now Petey)!❤️

Bruno joined us after being found collapsed on the side of the road just outside of Barrie. (You can read Bruno’s welcome post here: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/18oZXLkfNS/?mibextid=wwXIfr)

Initially, he was being boarded at Nordik K9 through connections with the person who found him. Eventually, he moved into a foster home (another first-time foster! 🎉), where he was able to decompress, settle in, and put on some much-needed weight.

While in foster care, we made sure Bruno had weekly weigh-ins to ensure he was on the right track, and he even got a much-needed spa day! And then, while in foster, he found his forever home — with a friend of the owner of Nordik K9❤️

The first photo is of Bruno with his foster mom and his new adoptive mom 🥹 He is so unbelievably loved.

Now that everything is official, Bruno has headed off to his forever home! Nordik K9 has been such an instrumental part of Bruno’s journey, and to make things even sweeter, they generously sponsored part of his adoption fee.

We’re so happy we could be a part of Bruno’s journey to healing, health, and a happy forever home.

Happy Tails, Fergus (now Vinny)! ❤️

Fergus has officially found his forever family — and they’ve just made it official! ✨ He’s now known as Vinny, and honestly… Vinny and Tito has such a nice ring to it 💛

Fergus came to us a few months ago from an Ontario shelter. He settled into a wonderful foster home (first-time foster, weoo! 🎉) where he had the chance to decompress, build confidence, and learn so many new skills to help prepare him for life in his forever home.

His adopters were persistent from the very beginning — reaching out about Fergus early on, being among the first to submit an application, and consistently showing their dedication and commitment throughout the process. We’re so glad everything worked out the way it was meant to, and that Fergus has now found the loving home he deserves ❤️

We’ve had many applicants recently who either stop responding, cancel partway through the approval process, or ghost us entirely. Please remember that there are volunteers taking the time to carefully review applications and connect with potential adopters. If the timing isn’t right or you’re unsure about adopting, we kindly ask that you make that decision before applying — or at the very least, communicate openly with our coordinators ❤️
