A lovely day last Sunday for the Bristol Village/Norway Bay Historical Tour. Thanks to all participants for joining us and a special thanks to our guide, Greg Graham, for sharing his knowledge of the area!

Bristol Historical Tour - Tournée historique de Bristol

The Friends of Chats Falls are delighted to invite you once again to the ever popular historical tour of Bristol. Local educator and historian Greg Graham will meet us at the Cidrerie Coronation Cidre Mill, 206 River road, Bristol, the starting and end point of the tour. Participants are welcome to use the parking lot at the Cidre Mill to unload bicycles. The tour will be conducted in English, and take three hours. Refreshments will be available.

La semaine dernière marquait la fin de la troisième édition des fouilles archéologiques publiques d’Archéo-Pontiac. Ce projet, mis sur pied par Les Amis du Sault-des-Chats, est un moyen formidable pour la communauté de tisser des liens avec son histoire. Jeunes et moins jeunes ont eu l’occasion de manier la truelle à la recherche de trésors du passé.

Encore cette année, des dizaines d’archéologues en herbe ont participé à la découverte de plusieurs objets datant de la fin du XIXᵉ et du début du XXᵉ siècle, en plein cœur du parc communautaire de Quyon.

Un merci bien senti à nos bénévoles, qui contribuent au bon déroulement des activités pendant les neuf journées de fouilles. Sans eux, les visites scolaires seraient tout un défi!

Un grand merci également aux archéologues Gina Vincelli et Luce Archambault de la coopérative Artefactuel, des collaboratrices chevronnées qui partagent leur expertise en enseignant toutes les étapes de la méthode archéologique avec patience et enthousiasme.

Cette initiative est fièrement soutenue par la MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais, la Caisse populaire Desjardins Hull-Aylmer, la Municipalité de Pontiac, la Société d’histoire de l’Outaouais, ainsi que par de nombreux partenaires locaux.

Last week marked the end of our third annual edition of Archéo-Pontiac’s Public Archeological digs. This project, organized by Friends of Chats Falls, is a wonderful way to connect community to history. Young and old alike had the opportunity to wield a trowel in search of treasures from the past.

Once again this year, dozens of budding archaeologists participated in the discovery of several objects dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, right in the heart of Quyon Community Park.

A heartfelt thank you to our volunteers, who help ensure that activities run smoothly during the nine days of excavations. Without them, school visits would be quite a challenge!

A big thank you also to archaeologists Gina Vincelli and Luce Archambault from the Artefactuel cooperative, seasoned collaborators who share their expertise by teaching all the steps of the archaeological method with patience and enthusiasm.

This initiative is proudly supported by the MRC des Collines-de-l'Outaouais, the Caisse populaire Desjardins Hull-Aylmer, the Municipality of Pontiac, the Société d'histoire de l'Outaouais, as well as numerous local partners.

Already stars of the digs and soon-to-be stars of the screen! Les vedettes des fouilles et du petit écran en devenir!
La maison de production télévisuelle ottavienne, SLALOM produit une nouvelle série documentaire pour Radio-Canada et TFO. Intitulée Urbex, cette série s'inspire du phénomène des explorateurs urbains pour aller à la découverte de lieux historiques méconnus ou tombés dans l'oubli avant qu'ils ne disparaissent pour de bon. La série voyage à travers le Canada.
Ils aimaient tourner un épisode en Outaouais et ils étaient très intéressés par les vestiges de l'ancien chemin de fer hippomobile et du canal de Chats Falls. Maude-Emmanuelle Lambert était leur guide pour cette partie puis ils ont visité les fouilles à Quyon!

Ottawa-based television production company, SLALOM, is making new series exploring little-known historic sites across Canada. They wanted to have an episode in the Outaouais and chose the horse railway and old canal to focus on. Maude was their guide for that part and then, of course, they HAD to visit our digs in Quyon!
