🚨Breaking! On the eve of this year’s two-day South Atlantic red snapper season, we applaud and commend the news announcing a House South Atlantic Red Snapper Task Force launched by congressional leaders Rep. John Rutherford, Rep. Buddy Carter, Rep. David Rouzer, and South Carolina’s own Rep. Russell Fry. This is the most recent step in a series of actions taken across the South Atlantic states to enhance data collection, advance state-led management measures, and increase recreational anglers access through improved season lengths of the snapper grouper complex.
“I’m thrilled to join the South Atlantic Red Snapper Task Force and help lead the charge for smarter, state-led management of this vital fishery,” said Fry. “The Red Snapper industry is crucial to coastal economies like those in my district and supports the livelihoods of countless fishing communities. This task force will focus on enhancing data collection, expanding state authority, and ensuring more predictable and longer seasons that benefit anglers and local businesses alike. It’s time we bring common sense and local expertise back to the forefront of fisheries management.”
In recent month’s South Carolina’s Congressional delegation, the South Carolina General Assembly, and South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster have all played a pivotal role in the progression of these initiatives. Empowering the states means more responsive management, better access, and a stronger future for our fisheries.
