EQUESTRIAN INPUT NEEDED 🏇

Carmarthenshire Local Access Forum

Carmarthenshire Council is currently advertising for suitable individuals to apply to be members of the Carmarthenshire Local Access Forum (LAF), we will appoint between 12 and 22 members to the Forum.

The function of the Local Access Forum is to advise Carmarthenshire on how to improve public access to land in the area for the purposes of outdoor recreation and enjoyment of the area.13 April 2025 is the closing date for applications, and we expect the first meeting of the Forum to be held in May 2025.

Carmarthenshire Council is very keen to have a balanced membership of individuals with a variety of interests and/or expertise in the local area. Therefore, I am writing to ask you to draw the attention of your members or participants to this information and invite individuals with relevant experience to apply to be members of the Carmarthenshire LAF. We are particularly keen to hear from landowners and from individuals who have experience of disabled issues.

I must emphasise that candidates are appointed on their own merit as an individual and not as a representative of a specific organisation and this invitation should not be interpreted as an offer of a place on the Forum.

Further information about the work of the LAF can be found on the Carmarthenshire County Council website Local Access Forum - Carmarthenshire County Council or by contacting me directly. Application forms are available on request.

The Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000 requires that 'local access forums' be set up across England and Wales to advise local authorities, the Natural Resources Wales and others on the improvement of public access to land for open air recreation and the enjoyment of the area.

– Public Paths at Kenfig Nature Reserve & Pyle & Kenfig Golf Club

The Council’s Rights of Way team are inviting residents and visitors to participate in a comprehensive review of the public rights of way network surrounding Kenfig National Nature Reserve and Pyle and Kenfig Golf Club.

This review aims to enhance the quality and sustainability of the routes people use for walking, cycling, and horse riding.

We are eager to learn about your experiences: why you choose to visit these areas, which paths you frequent, and whether the proposed new routes align with your needs and expectations. Your feedback is crucial in ensuring these paths remain viable and beneficial for all in the long term.

You can share your thoughts online or drop into our upcoming Public Consultation event 👇

📣 Don’t miss this veterinary talk with Dr. Shaun McKane tomorrow evening! Please see the post below for further details & how to book 😃 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🐴

📣 Hi everyone! Our next winter series online talk is ‘Winter Wellness’ with vet Dr Shaun McKane BVSc, BSc(vet), PhD, DipACVIM, DipECEIM, MRCVS in conjunction with Cotts Equine, on Wednesday 22nd Jan 2025 7-8pm.

In this talk, Shaun will cover a few of the most common problems that we see in horses during the winter months. Mud fever, winter diarrhoea and unexpected weight loss affect many horses and owners are often frustrated by these conditions. Aiming to help horse owners to recognise and potentially prevent these conditions requiring veterinary intervention, Shaun will also highlight the important signs that would indicate when a vet’s help should be sought.

Dr Shaun McKane BVSc, BSc(vet), PhD, DipACVIM, DipECEIM, MRCVS gained his veterinary degree from the University of Sydney in 1993, before completing a PhD (University of Melbourne) and then a Medicine Residency (Oregon State University) to become a Boarded Specialist with both the American and European Colleges of Equine Internal Medicine. He later held the position of Senior Lecturer in Equine Medicine at the University of Liverpool before joining Cotts Equine Hospital here in Wales to provide advanced medical care for horses, especially in the areas of respiratory disease, dental problems, ophthalmology and sarcoid treatment.

This is a talk you won't want to miss and a must for winter wellness for your horse! Tickets only £5 pp. For more information and how to book, please just follow the link below!
