Siruma, EcoSaver Moving Toward Landmark REDD+ Partnership

The Municipality of Siruma, Camarines Sur is formalizing a landmark REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) partnership with EcoSaver Mutual Fund Inc. to conserve over 16,000 hectares of forests and mangroves while promoting climate-resilient livelihoods.

This developing collaboration unites the Siruma LGU, EcoSaver, the Climate Change Commission (CCC), and Rotary leaders, aligning with DENR policies and international carbon market standards. The initiative integrates forest protection, mangrove rehabilitation, and agroforestry with crops such as moringa, coconut, and pineapple, linking conservation with sustainable income for local communities.

Early stages include mapping, documentation, and baseline validation to guide community engagement and carbon credit certification under REDD+ and VCS frameworks.

Key leaders include Sheryll Ann Mesina, Chairman of EcoSaver Mutual Fund Inc., President of the ASEAN Carbon Market Sustainability Council, and President of the Rotary Club of Aseana Manila; PE Allyson Santos, President-Elect of the Rotary Club of Aseana Manila and President/CEO of EcoSaver; UCP Karen Rose Gamboa-Sumandal of RC Pasay Dewey Blvd; and UCP Christina Allada of RC Manila Villamor.

Mayor Karina Polinga and Vice Mayor Christopher Candellaria expressed strong support, calling the initiative a key step toward climate resilience and sustainable growth in Siruma.

The Rotary Club of Aseana Manila, under the strong and visionary leadership of UCP Sheryll Ann Mesina, continues to strengthen its commitment to public health through Project SAM, a nationwide HIV/AIDS awareness initiative aimed towards.reaching one million youth. In alignment with and working out a partnership with the Department of Health (DOH), this initiative focuses on expanding access to free medicines and test kits while promoting awareness, prevention, and compassion across the country.

In a recent discussion with DOH Undersecretary Randy Escolango, the collaboration was further deepened to ensure Rotary’s efforts under Project SAM directly support and complement the DOH’s national objectives in combating HIV/AIDS among the youth.

Joining us in this meaningful journey are our very close fellow UCPs, Christina Aliada Karen Rose Gamboa-Sumandal, Rynah Fragata Ventura, Allen Rios and Raoul C. Creencia, as we continue to work hand in hand to champion youth health and wellness nationwide.

It is a great honor to once again collaborate with the esteemed Archt. Jun Palafox, the world-renowned visionary behind numerous transformative and iconic projects in the Philippines and across the globe.

He has been both a friend and my architect for over a decade, and it is truly inspiring to witness his continued passion and dedication to sustainable development and nation-building. His legacy of excellence in architecture, urban design, and environmental planning continues to shape cities and inspire generations.

I am deeply privileged to work alongside him once more as we pursue more meaningful and impactful initiatives that focus on environmental stewardship and sustainable urban growth.

Together, we are partnering with Local Government Units (LGUs) to advance urban greening programs, promote environmental regeneration, and help shape cities that are more livable, climate-resilient, and nature-centered.

Our shared vision goes beyond physical structures,it is about building communities that flourish in harmony with nature. This collaboration stands as a commitment to creating a greener, cleaner, and more sustainable future for all.
