Fuerza ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

QNU UPDATE 1/30/2025 3:50PM

Thanks to all who mobilized, who are still on the ground, and to our neighbors who shared important information today. We haven’t gotten any reports of active presence in the neighborhoods in the last 1.5 hours. We recommend continued conversations with community members in intentional ways, seeding relationships and knowledge sharing. For this to be successful it has to be all of us, all the time and decentralized. Don’t wait on trainings, look up the material and teach yourself and others. We must be ready to move into action without panic.

We rang the alarm today because there were several confirmed sightings of ICE across Elmhurst and Corona all morning. We are confirming that 3 people were detained, tho potentially more will come to light in the coming hours. However, we want to underscore that 3 people is 3 too many. Despite the numerous sightings it seems like this was a targeted enforcement operation meaning no collateral apprehension. Again this is just with the information we have right now and in communicating this info we’re toeing a very thin line. Though this administration wants to put us into panic, it’s our understanding that ICE doesn’t quite have the capacity/numbers they need to match the power they claim.

But we do, block by block and day by day. Everyone will have a role figure out what yours is/will be.

Last month we had a political education day at Corona Plaza about militarization from Palestine to Roosevelt Ave. We talked about what it means/looks like, who it targets and what it claims to do. We talked through the many contradictions our community holds; internalized xenophobia and racism, promoting the social cleansing and criminalization of our own neighbors and family members, etc. We met people where they’re at in their political understanding, centered their experiences, and moved towards deconstructing these contradictions. These conversations take a lot of skill, patience and active listening. To some of us it felt more difficult to have these conversations than in the past whereas some of us dived deep into 30+ min conversations. Ultimately we can say people are open to having these political conversations and we’re happy to provide that space in public. These conversations were powerful, but we’re under no illusion that the politicization process happens overnight nor with one stand-alone conversation, we’re simply planting seeds. This work is so important and we should all strive towards it – be it at family gatherings or in public. We leave some takeaways in the slides. We’ll be hitting the Jackson Heights Farmers Market later this month to get a lil spicy w the liberals.
