💛 Loneliness Awareness Week – Day 2 💛

As part of our Loneliness Awareness Week feedback, one comment really made us stop and think:

"How little it takes to make someone feel less lonely."

A phone call.

A cup of tea.

A text message.

A smile.

An invitation.

Often, the things that make the biggest difference are also the simplest.

This week, why not take a few minutes to check in with someone? Whether it's a friend, neighbour, family member or colleague, that small act of connection could mean more than you realise.

💛 Loneliness Awareness Week 15-21 June 2026💛

As part of Loneliness Awareness Week, we asked people to share their thoughts and experiences of loneliness.

One response particularly stood out:

"You can feel lonely even when you are with people in a crowd, group, party or anywhere you are not seen, heard or understood."

It's a powerful reminder that loneliness isn't always about being physically alone. Sometimes it's about feeling disconnected, overlooked or lacking meaningful connection with others.

This week, we're sharing some of the insights and reflections people shared with us to help give loneliness a voice and encourage conversations around connection and belonging.

Sometimes something as simple as a conversation, a phone call or checking in with someone can make a real difference.

To mark Carers Week, we were delighted to welcome 28 unpaid carers to a special afternoon dedicated entirely to them.

Guests enjoyed sandwiches, cream tea, games, laughter and wonderful entertainment from Bobby Moonlight and his assistant Barbara, who had everyone singing along and having fun. A raffle was also held, with self-care and arts and crafts hampers awarded as prizes. The same prizes were also provided to carers who were unable to attend, ensuring everyone felt included.

The event gave carers an opportunity to take some time for themselves, relax, connect with others and enjoy a well-deserved afternoon of appreciation.

Feedback from attendees included:

💬 "I had a fantastic time and afternoon."

💬 "It was a lovely event. Felt not so on my own!"

💬 "Enjoyed it so much after a long time. I am thankful I was able to attend today."

💬 "Brilliant afternoon, lots of fun with lovely people. Great entertainment too."

💬 "I just wanted to say a BIG thank you for the lovely afternoon tea and entertainment on Wednesday. You worked so hard to give us all a memorable and enjoyable afternoon. I came home feeling spoilt and cared for with the lovely card and bag of goodies – thank you."

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the event such a success and, most importantly, to the unpaid carers we support. Your dedication makes an enormous difference every day.

We're looking forward to some fantastic trips over the coming weeks thanks to the generosity of the Royal Historic Palaces Scheme.

On 17 June, members of our Greenwich Befriending groups will be heading off to explore Kensington Palace and Gardens followed by another visit on 24 June for our Nepali Older Women's Group.

These trips are about much more than sightseeing. They provide opportunities to connect with others, build confidence, reduce isolation and enjoy new experiences together.

We can't wait to see the smiles and hear all about the visits when everyone returns!

It's Carers Week and we'd like to take a moment to recognise the incredible contribution of unpaid carers.

Every day, thousands of people provide support to a partner, family member, friend or neighbour who could not manage without them. Caring can be rewarding, but it can also be challenging, exhausting and sometimes isolating.

To all carers in our community, thank you. Your patience, dedication and compassion make a huge difference.

If you are looking after someone and don't think of yourself as a carer, you are not alone. Many people don't realise that support may be available to help them in their caring role.

This Carers Week, let's take time to recognise carers, listen to their experiences and ensure they know they don't have to do it alone.

Caring for someone can be rewarding, but it can also feel isolating at times. That's why our Bromley Well Adult Carers Service offers regular opportunities for unpaid carers to come together, connect, share experiences and enjoy some time for themselves.

Our monthly coffee morning at the Waitrose Café on Masons Hill has become a popular gathering, giving carers the chance to meet others who understand the challenges and joys of caring. We're also told the coffee isn't bad either!

Here's what one of our carers had said:

💬 "Waitrose is a lovely venue. It is just like meeting your friends for coffee, even though we share support and ideas about our cared ones. Debbie makes a lovely, outgoing facilitator for the group and she always makes sure everyone is included."

A huge thank you to Debbie and everyone who joins us each month and helps make these sessions such a welcoming and supportive space.

Volunteers Week 20206

This week we are celebrating the amazing volunteers who give their time, skills, kindness and compassion to support older people across Bromley and Greenwich.

Whether they are befriending, helping people stay active, supporting carers, assisting at events, making phone calls, carrying out practical tasks or helping behind the scenes, our volunteers make a real difference every single day.

Quite simply, we couldn't reach as many older people without them.

To every one of our volunteers, thank you. Your dedication, generosity and commitment help us improve the lives of older people in our community and we are incredibly grateful for everything you do.

💙 Happy Volunteers' Week 2026 💙

Loneliness can affect anyone at any stage of life.

Sometimes it can feel temporary and sometimes it can feel much harder to talk about.

This Loneliness Awareness Week, we want to hear from you.

What helps you feel connected?
What makes a difference to your day?
What would you like other people to understand about loneliness?

This year’s theme, “Giving Loneliness a Voice”, is all about helping people feel heard and less alone.

Whether you have experienced loneliness yourself, supported someone else through it or simply have something to say, your voice matters.

Responses may be shared anonymously to help raise awareness and support others across our community.
