Hebden Bridge Walkers Action was formed in 2007. Later Mytholmroyd action was formed. They produced some great walk leaflets and a children’s walk book. But over the years their members dwindled and several years ago they merged with Hebden Bridge Walkers Action.
Todwalkers was formed in about 2016 and they too produced some great walks around Todmorden. They too have seen their membership dwindle so they too are merging with us.
So folks we intend to update our page and will change our name to Heart of the Pennines WaW (walkers are Welcome) Our website has already changed because ours was too badly hacked to be retrieved.
In the meantime look at our website. Lots of information there about the whole of the upper valley

All Kinds of Walking in the Heart of the Pennines The most extensive pathway network anywhere in the UK – nearly 600 miles of pathways, some dating back to the 17th century. It is easy to forget but before the CRoW act of 2000 people in the Calder Valley did not have unrestricted access to our surrounding moors. On Saturday we walked up to the Meerstones on the Walshaw moors where previously we couldn't. Our subsequent conference at the Town Hall featured the current position in England where the public only have access to 9% of the countryside. The new Right to Roam campaign aims to address that.

We held a very successful conference called Freedom to Roam on Saturday 29th November in Hebden Bridge Town Hall. 60 people attended and agreed the following:

The Hebden Bridge Declaration
Our vision: An England where all her people can enjoy the
benefits of outdoor recreation and of access to nature
On the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Countryside and Rights of Way Act:
 we celebrate the access rights it introduced
 we note that despite the Act there remain significant limitations in the
opportunities for access to the countryside in England
 we call on the government to introduce ambitious new legislation for
access to the land and inland waters of England for outdoor recreation
and appreciation of nature

Adopted unanimously at the Freedom to Roam: the Next Step national conference held in
Hebden Bridge Town Hall, November 29 th 2025

Less than a month to go to sign up to our great walk and conference. The walk sets off from Hebden Bridge marina in mini buses to take you to Clough Foot on the Widdop road. There you will have a choice of either walking on the track up to Heather Hill or on the footpath across the fields. CROWS have built a board walk at the beginning of the footpath, strummed the path to make the path line clearer and added guide posts. Thanks CROWS
The conference in the afternoon has great speakers and an opportunity to discuss the way forward for further access rights.
Get booking folks.

Our conference on 29th November is really worth attending. It celebrates 25years of the CroW act that gave the public access to mountain, moor, heath and down. Locally it gave us access to the moors above Hebden.
There will be a guided walk in the morning on the Walshaw moors leaving from Hebden in minibuses.
Book on Eventbrite See you there.
