Breathe Deep Columbia Breathe Deep Columbia is a grassroots event in Columbia, MD, to raise funds and awareness for lifesaving lung cancer research, education, and support programs.

Breathe Deep Columbia is grassroots event started by lung cancer survivor Michael Osborne in 2013. Michael was diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer in 2008. With his wife Jane by his side, Michael underwent extensive cancer treatment, including surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, and a lobectomy of his upper right lung. In the winter of 2009, Michael was declared cancer free. However, knowing h

ow cancer can spread undetected, Michael’s surgeon suggested he undergo prophylactic brain radiation in case the cancer had spread. While a difficult decision, he does not regret it as he has had great long-term results. Nine years later, Michael is doing well, thanks to the aggressive treatment of his disease by a gifted oncologist, Dr. Clement Knight (since deceased). Michael is beating the odds and fighting a disease that claimed his father’s life and touches both him and his brother! He is currently planning Breathe Deep Columbia on Saturday, April 22, 2017. He and his family have been active in Breathe Deep events since 2009 and believe these grassroots events are an important way for the community to support lung cancer research and advocacy. With your support and participation, we will see more 9-year survivors like Michael beating lung cancer and making a difference!
