The Youngwood Spinnerettes is an active baton and color guard group. The group consists of instructors, senior and junior competitive, and youth twirlers.

General information
Once upon a time.............. ....... in the 1960's, there was a man named John Hirst who created "The Spinnerettes". The group became known as "The South Greensburg V.F.D. Spinnerettes". The Spinnerettes was made up of both baton twirlers and percussionists from the ages of 6 to 18 years old adorning red and white uniforms that were a trademark of the group for many years. Under the direction of Mr. Hirst, the group attained many accolades and awards while appearing at various parades throughout Westmoreland County and surrounding areas until the mid 1980's. In 2001, previous members of the The South Greensburg V.F.D. Spinnerettes decided to breath new life into the group. The previous members operated the group for a couple of years until in year 2003, Jay and Theresa Troutman acquired the Spinnerettes. The Spinnerettes then moved from South Greensburg to its present new home and sponsor, the Youngwood Volunteer Fire Department in Youngwood Pa. The group's name was changed to "The Youngwood V.F.D. Spinnerettes Baton and Color Guard Corps". On Memorial Day 2004, The Youngwood V.F.D. Spinnerettes debuted their new sponsor's blue and silver colors and "took it to the streets". The group performed in 14 parades in 2004 and were very successful by placing 1st, 2nd or 3rd in every judged parade. In 2008, Jay and Theresa passed the "baton" to a new operator of the Youngwood Spinnerettes, Jennifer Comer. The Spinnerettes then made a seamless transition under Jennifer's management and continued to inspire young girls to participate and place in parades. Today the new operator is Pam Jordan, who has been a part of the Spinnerettes for many years now.
