2nd Annual Confederate Encampment at Fort Ward
Saturday, September 26, 2026 - 9am to 4pm
San Marcos de Apalache Historic State Park
148 Old Fort Road, - St. Marks, Florida

The public is invited to join us as local reenactors share the historic role of Confederate Fort Ward during the American Civil War. There will be musket and artillery demonstrations throughout the day and demonstrations of camp life and campfire cooking.

The Park’s museum displays numerous artifacts and features an 18 minute video which recounts over three centuries of military history at the site (Spanish, British, American, and Confederate).

A picnic area is available with picnic tables and barbecue grills. Tucker’s Point offers a scenic view at the water’s edge where the St. Marks River joins the Wakulla River and flows out into Apalache Bay. The point is an excellent spot for fishing.

The summer meeting of the Natural Bridge Historical Society, Inc. (NBHS) Board of Directors will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2026 starting at 10 A.M. at the St. Marks Geo Parks office located at 1358 Old Woodville Rd, Crawfordville FL 32327.
The meeting is open to the public, our sponsors, partners, and other interested parties. If you have any items that need to be discussed at the meeting, please comment or message this site.

Impact ⚡️Flashback | District 1

It’s Park Impact Grants week, and we are celebrating by taking a look back at some of the *amazing* impacts these grants have created over the years. Today, we’re highlighting District 1 (Northwest/Florida Panhandle)!

2021:
• Friends of Pensacola State Parks (Big Lagoon, Perdido Key, Tarkiln Bayou Preserve) — New golf cart

2022:
• Friends of St. Joseph State Parks: (T.H. Stone Memorial St. Joseph Peninsula, Constitution Convention Museum) — New golf cart for volunteers

The Natural Bridge Historical Society will be sponsoring an exhibit at the Tallahassee History Festival this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Intermural Field of the Tallahassee State College (TSC) main campus (Appleyard Drive). The Festival is a free community event with over 100 exhibits from the Big Bend area. Please come join us.

Battle of Natural Bridge Reenactment - March 7 & 8 -Make your plans now to attend!

The reenacting committee of the Natural Bridge Historical Society, Inc. is currently accepting applications from home and public school classes to “tour the camps” on Friday, March 6, 2026 at the upcoming reenactment of the Battle of Natural Bridge. Participants will take part in a guided tour of both the Confederate and Union camps where they will be greeted by Living Historians explaining the life of a common soldier during the American Civil. The tours will end in a visit to the Sutlers Row where merchants of the period will offer for sale souvenirs and authentic reproductions of items used by both soldiers and civilians during the 1860’s.

If interested, please message this page with your contact information (i.e., name, email, phone number), the number of school age children in your group, and the number of adult chaperones. Time slots and group sizes are limited and will be scheduled on a first come first serve basis.
