Two more military spouses detained by immigration enforcement and in the headlines. Thousands of dollars in care packages for service members stuck in limbo. And a voting rights fight that isn't done yet.

Our military-connected community is living all of this right now and Congress needs to hear from us now that they're back in session. This week's calls to action are up on our Substack with everything you need to know to take action.

Congress is back from recess. A federal book ban bill is moving toward the House floor. Coast Guard families are still waiting on a reliable paycheck as the DHS partial shutdown continues. And Army spouse Annie Ramos is home from immigration detention with an ankle monitor.

In the last ten days:

ICE detained a soldier's newlywed wife on base. They are posted up at Parris Island boot camp graduation to monitor families. Trump signed an EO threatening mail-in voting critical to our military community. He also submitted a $1.5 trillion defense budget balanced by cuts to FEMA and other key programs. An F-15E was shot down over Iran and the crew was rescued.

It's a lot in a short period. Military families are being targeted on multiple fronts and our voices are incredibly important right now.

Even though it's heavy, we're asking you to speak up on Iran, immigration enforcement, and voting rights. Do what you can, in whatever form works for you. It all counts.

A Marine graduates at Parris Island and ICE will be waiting for their family at the gate.

ICE agents are being stationed outside Marine Corps graduation ceremonies at Parris Island starting this week to screen the immigration status of families trying to attend.

After 13 weeks of separation, these families are now being told they need to show their papers just to watch their Marine graduate. The Marine Corps itself confirmed agents will conduct "immigration status inquiries" on families at the gate.

DHS says no arrests will be made. But the chilling effect is real. We all know that many families will stay home and miss this moment of pride and celebration rather than risk it.

This administration has already shown us exactly what it thinks of military families by deporting them. Now it's happening in plain sight at the gates of one of the proudest moments in a Marine's life.

To every military and veteran family who showed up for No Kings on Saturday to use your voice, thank you. It was a historic moment, but the action doesn't stop there!

Here are our calls to action for military families this week as we continue the momentum:

→ Stay engaged locally: recess town halls, organizing groups, voter registration checks all matter
→ Pressure the House to pass the Senate's DHS funding fix and get Coast Guard families paid
→ Speak out against escalation in Iran before any boots are put on the ground

We know speaking up isn't simple for our community. Do what you can, in whatever form feels safe for you. It all counts.

Emily Gregory, Army spouse, small biz owner, and first-time candidate, just flipped a seat that hadn't been competitive in years. She ran against a Trump-endorsed opponent in a district Trump won by 11 points. And she won!

We talk a lot here about the connection between policy and everyday life for military families. Going to war. Deployment schedules. Shutdowns and paychecks. BAH rates and whether we can afford to live near post. VA care and benefits. Our community lives policy every day.

That's exactly why we need more of us at the table.

Local school board. City council. State legislature. Congress. These seats shape the world our families live in and they are winnable by people like us.

Emily's win is a reminder that military spouses and family members bring something rare to public office: we understand service, sacrifice, and the gap between what Washington promises and what families actually experience.

If Emily's story tells us anything, it's this: run. Your community needs your perspective. Your lived experience as a military family is not a liability, it's exactly the qualification that's been missing in our leadership.

So who's next? 🙋‍♀️

Democrat Emily Gregory has won a special state House election in a Palm Beach district that includes President Donald Trump’s Florida home of Mar-a-Lago, adding another special election win to a recent string of victories around the country for Democrats.

Making calls, writing letters, pushing back - it's exhausting, especially when it feels like nothing is moving. But we can't stop, because what's happening right now will be felt in our households long after the news cycle moves on.

📍 Show up March 28. No Kings rallies are happening across the country and around the world. Military and veteran families have a big stake in this moment, in our paychecks, in our voting rights, in the deployments of our loved ones without Congressional authorization. Bring your friends. Bring a flag. Show everyone that patriotism and accountability belong to all of us.

📞 Call your Representative. House Democrats are expected to force another War Powers Resolution vote. Every vote creates a record. Make sure your Representative knows that a military family is watching theirs.

✉️ Push your Senators on DHS funding. Tell your Senators: fund core DHS functions asap while making sure that accountability reforms for ICE and CBP are part of any final deal.

Our calls to action for military families are on pause this week, but we'll be back next week.

We want to acknowledge that the weight of this moment is real. As conflict continues to escalate in Iran and we see our fellow families experiencing loss, many families who spent years carrying the burden of 20 years of war and sacrifice are feeling that weight resurface in ways that are hard to put into words. And we know that Coast Guard families are still navigating the ongoing stress of the DHS shutdown on top of everything else.

If someone in your circle needs support, check in. If you're the one struggling, please reach out. We've shared resources on our Substack or you can always visit Military OneSource.
