Katie Baldwin is a Professor at The University of Alabama in Huntsville, where she has taught printmaking and book arts since 2013. In 2021, she was a Fulbright Scholar at the International Print Center at National Taiwan Normal University in Taipei, Taiwan.

In her presentation, Baldwin will discuss the evolution of her project: Modified Landscape as series of woodblock prints, drawings and work in textiles.

Let's Mokuhanga together

3月2日から6日に開催される、中級向け木版画ワークショップの講師を担当します。

15×15cmの版木をベースとして、自分で彫り、摺りはもちろん、版木を回転させたものを重ねたり、他の方が彫った版木を摺り合わせてみたり。木版画制作をしながら交流できたらと思います。正方形の中で暴れましょう一□■■

普段制作している作品をお持ちいただき、講師と意見交換などの時間も作れます。

1日のみの受講も可能です。期間内、どのような参加スケジュールでも歓迎いたします

ご受講をお待ちしております。

Matthew "Em" Willie Garcia (Communications Chair)

Em Willie Garcia, a California native now based in Kansas City, MO. Garcia’s work transcends traditional print media working in screen printing, mokuhanga, projection-mapping, animation, and large-scale installations. Inspired by a blend of science, science fiction, and his q***r identity, Garcia explores these themes through color abstraction and nonrepresentational forms. Holding a B.F.A. from the Kansas City Art Institute and an M.F.A. from the University of Kansas, Garcia has earned acclaim regionally, notably exhibiting at the Nerman Contemporary Museum of Art, Des Moines Art Center and internationally in Japan and Spain. Garcia is currently serving as the 2024/2025 Grant Wood Fellow at the University of Iowa.

Meet the board: Nicholas Cladis (Bilingual secretary)

Nicholas Cladis is an artist working in Iowa City, IA and a 2025-26 statewide Iowa Artist Fellow. He has taught at the University of Iowa and Fukui Prefectural University (Japan) and has been a visiting artist at several other universities, non-profits, and craft schools worldwide. Nicholas’ work incorporates site-responsive / experimental installation, community engagement, and an attention to — and appreciation of — craft in a contemporary fine arts context. A former Japan Foundation Fellow and resident of Japan, Nicholas maintains an active relationship with the Echizen papermaking community in Fukui Prefecture. This relationship has inspired an array of cross-cultural arts exchanges, exhibitions, and workshops.

Meet the board: Natasha Norman

Natasha Norman (born in Namibia in 1982) is a South African visual artist that processes intuitive images of natural places in collaboration with hand-worked surfaces and materials. She graduated with an MFA from the University of Cape Town in 2011. She has attended two residencies in Japan to develop her knowledge of Japanese woodblock printing. She has exhibited widely throughout her career, most recently with her artist collective, The Mokuhanga Sisters. In 2024 she held a solo exhibition at 99 ofLoop Gallery in Cape Town. In 2023 she presented at the International Original Print Exhibition held by The Royal Society of Painter Printmakers at the Bankside Gallery in London. In 2019 Natasha co-founded Mokuhanga Kai, a society for the promotion of Japanese woodblock printing in South Africa to further access to and knowledge about this non-toxic print medium within Southern Africa. She has lectured at various institutions and universities in South Africa and published as an independent writer. Her work has been included in various collections including The Victoria and Albert Museum, London and the Iziko South African National Gallery in Cape Town.

Meet the Board: Vladimir Ivaneanu

Vladimir, born in Ghent (B) in 1977, still lives and works in his hometown. While studying printmaking, he developed a passion for woodcutting and a fascination for Japanese printmaking. After his studies, he participated in numerous exhibitions and art residencies at home and abroad. Paul Furneaux taught him the basics of mokuhanga and in 2007 Vladimir was able to participate in the Nagasawa Art Park Project.

Since 2010, Vladimir has been teaching Japanese woodcut at the Academy of Fine Arts Ghent, the only school in Flanders where one can learn it. In 2023, together with Soetkin Everaert, Vladimir received a grant from the Flemish government to promote and pass on Japanese woodcut as a heritage in Flanders. Together with Soetkin, he forms the collective Mokuhanga Magic! which is committed to making mokuhanga known to a wide audience and to unite artists in Europe who work with this medium.
