We offer a community-based holistic educational program to children and their families in two extremely impoverished communities in Nicaragua. The goals are to instill the value of education in the families and the entire community and to remove the physical and emotional barriers that may exist preventing regular attendance of school. This is done through daily home visits where parents are encou
raged to send their kids to school and are trained on how to enhance their children’s education. Also during these visits counseling and emotional support are provided to help them find solutions to barriers, physical or otherwise, that prevent children from attending school. In addition we provide mandatory uniforms, shoes, backpacks and supplies, tuition (secondary school), transportation for rural high school students, tutoring, a small library and research center, enrichment activities, and counseling both individually and in groups. In 2009 EI achieved a program (and school) retention rate of 97% within the program participants and within the two communities we work in an 85% attendance rate overall of both primary and secondary school age children was achieved. Ofrecemos una serie de programas educativos basados en comunidad holística hacia los niños y sus familias en dos comunidades extremedamente empobrecidas en Nicaragua. Esto se realiza con visitas a domicilio a diario, donde los padres son motivados a enviar a sus hijos a las escuelas y son asesorados en como mejorar la educacion de sus hijos. Durante las visitas, se provee consejería y apoyo emocional para ayudarle encontrar soluciones a las barreras físicas o cualquier otra que evite a los niños asistir a la escuela. Desde el 2009, EI a alcanzado un programa y retención escolar de más de un 97%. Dentro del programa los participantes de las dos comunidades donde trabajamos. En la primera comunidad donde trabajamos desde el 2011 el 80% de todos los niños de edad escolar continuan los estudios.
