Goooo Mike! 🤍🕯️
Our July Volunteer of the Month is Mike Lopez! 🌟
Mike holds a special place in Phoenix Society history as the first survivor trained under the National SOAR program. For the past two years, he has completed numerous virtual visits, offering peer support and compassion to fellow burn survivors across the country.
A survivor of a car accident in 2007, Mike's journey of healing has been shaped by personal growth, community connection, and a commitment to giving back. Today, he's not only a powerful Peer Supporter but also the creator of Make A Move, a bi-weekly vlog sharing stories of strength, especially from burn survivors and amputees.
💬 "As an athlete with a background in wrestling, the physical recovery, bolstered by the fortitude I'd developed, wasn't the hardest part. The psychosocial recovery proved to be the most challenging...A significant part of my recovery has come from the incredible opportunities within the burn community. I was fortunate to be introduced to this community early in my journey, meeting some of the most remarkable and special people who have become like family. Giving back to this community, which has given me so much, is something I'll likely do for the rest of my life."
Mike, thank you for showing up with heart, honesty, and hope. You continue to make a lasting impact!
