UAID at UMiami UAID is a non-profit organization that focuses on empowering students and communities to create sustainable solutions to eliminating health inequities

UAID was founded on the premise of empowering undergraduate students to gain hands-on medical, leadership, and international travel experience. What makes UAID different?

1) UAID is a student-led organization on both the national and chapter levels. 100% of donations go directly towards UAID programs and there are no overhead costs.

2) UAID prioritizes partnerships with government’s Minist

ry of Health or existing organizations in order to achieve a sustainable solution.

3) UAID emphasizes both domestic and international initiatives equally. Domestically, UAID focuses on volunteering at local clinics and hospitals as well as spreading awareness via events such as the annual Yale hosted Infectious Disease Symposium, panels, AIDS Walks, etc. Internationally, UAID aims to supplement the work of existing local organizations and government initiatives by providing student volunteers to organize soccer camps, educational programs, counseling, rapid diagnoses, etc.

4) UAID stresses the importance of student advocates by encouraging involvement in phoning in during telethons and hosting a forum during the Global Health Council Conference in Washington, DC.

5) UAID revolutionizes the role of journalism in increasing awareness and advocacy for public health disparities. This is achieved through the publication of an annual intercollegiate journal as well as social media efforts including online blogs, video documentaries, and photography campaigns.
