Vale Emeritus Professor John Melville-Jones AM FAHA.

Those who were members and friends of the RAG will fondly remember John Melville-Jones. John passed away earlier this month at the age of 92. The Arts G26/Lecture Room 6 has been dedicated in his honour as the 'John Melville-Jones Learning Space'.

I wanted to take this opportunity to share with you some lectures presented to the RAG.

“We are pleased to invite friends, colleagues and members of the public to celebrate the publication of a collection of papers in honour of the career and academic legacy of Emeritus Professor David Kennedy, edited by Dr Rebecca Repper, Dr Bob Bewley and Dr Mike Bishop.

The book features twenty individual papers on the archaeology of the 'Near East' and Arabia. These papers focus on the eastern frontier, or 'Desert Frontier', of the Roman Empire, and offer new perspectives and research that contribute to our understanding of this region as part of a rich cultural landscape. These papers honour David Kennedy's long and influential contribution of scholarship in this area, and demonstrate how his study of the Roman army, the archaeology of Jordan, and aerial archaeology has enhanced our understanding and continues to inspire.

The event will include a presentation that speaks both to the inspiration for the book and its extensive content by the lead editor Rebecca Repper, and a presentation of the volume to David Kennedy, followed by light refreshments. People attending will have the opportunity to browse a copy of the volume and access a discount code to order their own copy from Sydney University Press.”
