Service to the Armed Forces (SAF) is the worldwide program through which the American Red Cross provides emergency communications and other services to the members of the United States Armed Forces and their families. Recently, our Youth Action Campaign (YAC) students have been very busy educating their peers about International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and the Rules of War. They have spent the last six months studying IHL and developing projects to share their knowledge with others in their community.

Team 1 prepared a quick lecture and a virtual game for the 8th graders at Yokota Middle School, highlighting who and what are protected in conflict zones during wartime. Meanwhile, Team 2 took their event to the Youth Center. They shared the importance of the principle of distinction using an interactive bowling game. Both teams did an incredible job, and we are so proud of their hard work!

Last Sunday, we had the opportunity to host a mindful movement session with the fire department—a great way to reset, recharge, and reconnect both physically and mentally.

Mindful movement is more than just light exercise—it helps reduce stress, improve focus, and build resilience, which is especially important for those in high-demand roles. Taking even a short amount of time to slow down and be present can have a lasting impact on overall well-being.

Our amazing Red Cross volunteers showed up in full force this past weekend to support the Best Friends Run at Yokota Air Base! 🐶❤️ From helping with event coordination to cheering on participants and ensuring everyone stayed safe and hydrated, their dedication truly made a difference. Events like these highlight the power of community and the impact of service, bringing people together for a great cause and a fun, active day. We’re so grateful for the time, energy, and heart our volunteers continue to give—thank you for representing the spirit of the Red Cross so well! ❤️

Today Yokota AB hosted Operation K.U.D.O.S.—a fun and engaging initiative focused on Kindness, Unity, Duty, Outreach, and Service—bringing the community together in a meaningful way. Our Red Cross volunteers taught children about the importance of safety and first aid, even stepping in to care for some “wounded dinosaurs” along the way. It was a beautiful day to celebrate community, learning, and compassion.

A fond farewell to Naung Moreland, backfill Regional Program Manager for Yokota, and Welcome Back, David Garrison, Regional Program Manager for Yokota. Naung was an integral part of the American Red Cross team at Yokota Air Base while David was deployed for the Red Cross overseas.

Asia-Pacific Division Director Scott Armstrong, staff and volunteers gathered together to celebrate both Naung and David. For her service, Scott presented Naung with an Asia-Pacific Division coin. 👏👏👏
