In Oslo, I stood in front of a sculpture made entirely of people climbing over one another.
At first it felt crowded and chaotic.
Then it started to feel familiar.
Maybe none of us rises alone.
A man once told me at an airport that he made more money in a day than I made in a year.
What stayed with me wasn’t the insult.
It was realizing how many ordinary people were required to lift his plane into the sky.
Sometimes the people carrying us through life never realize they helped us at all.
A teacher.
A mechanic.
A stranger in a train station.
Someone who spoke up at exactly the right moment.
One steady hand at a time.

“Spring has sprung, the grass has riz, I wonder where the birdies is.”
A hummingbird flew into the house this week and promptly forgot how doors work.
Honestly, I understood completely.
The harder the hummingbird fought the room, the less clearly it could see the open door.
That felt familiar.
Sometimes we don’t need louder directions.
Sometimes we just need a quiet moment long enough to notice the opening already sitting in front of us.

There’s a phrase people say in Arizona:
“You don’t have to shovel heat.”
True enough.
But this week, looking at storm pictures from Saskatchewan, I found myself remembering a different kind of weather—and a stranger I once picked up in the snow.
Some storms leave more than snow behind.
This one brought back a memory from my college days in Saskatoon—
a young man walking into the wind,
and a moment that still stays with me.
No headlines.
No cameras.
No applause.
Just someone stopping the car.
Someone opening a door.
Someone making sure another person doesn’t walk through the storm alone.
That’s the story this week.
