Birth of a Vision * needs to be updated *
November 13, 2011 marked the 40th anniversary of the murder of Helen Betty Osborne in The Pas, Manitoba. To commemorate this tragedy, a pipe ceremony and a night walk was held to hon
or her spirit for keeping the issue of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women in the hearts and minds of the people. Over 200 people from all over Northern Manitoba walked from the pumphouse at Clearwater Lake to The Pas to be greeted by the new dawn. One of those who walked with her children was Angela Lavallee. She had a dream that a marathon be held annual to bring awareness to the issue of healing from all forms of violence and remember those who left this world. Soles on Fire is a realization of that vision. A committee was established in 2014 to bring the vision to life. Manitoba Runners Association was approached to sanction the race. As a result, Soles on Fire is now on the Manitoba Race Calendar. It will be a fully measured course and timed race. It will also be a timed race in the Manitoba youth series.
