Founded in 2011 by long term students of Shotokai karate, Karate Do Shotokai Scotland has its roots in the traditional martial arts developed by Gichin Funakoshi’s original Shoto-Kai Group. More directly we have been guided and influenced by Mitsusuke Harada, the Principal of the KDS, who was for many years a personal student of Funakoshi. Master Harada started to practice karate under Funakoshi a

t the Shotokan dojo in the early 1940’s and in 1963 he founded the KDS (Karate Do Shotokai) Association in the UK. Our senior Black-Belt practitioners have already gained a vast experience of Shotokai Karate – however, they continue to challenge and develop their practice in order to progress the art and are always keen to share their knowledge and experience with others.

Good news on the practise front.

With the recent changes to the Covid situation we are now able to get back to normal practises.
So from Saturday 29th January we will be back at the Newton Community Centre.

In addition, we now have a new practise venue in Edinburgh. Our Edinburgh practise will be at the Scout Hall in Trinity Road, on Tuesday nights from 20.00 until 21.30.

Here’s looking forward to getting back to proper Karate training.
