WIO CARE Western Indian Ocean – Community, Awareness, Research, and Environment WIO CARE conducts research about coastal and marine issues in the Western Indian Ocean.

WIO CARE focuses on sustainable use of coastal and marine resources.WIO CARE involves local communities in resource management activities, diversifying livelihoods options and increasing their resilience to environmental change. Awareness raising activities undertaken by WIO CARE aims at increasing the awareness about the importance of coastal and marine resources among a wide range of stakeholder

s, including amongst others local communities, policy makers, and tourists. Further, WIO CARE intends to increase awareness about the coastal and marine environment in the Western Indian Ocean to the international community. Further, WIO CARE aims to improve the links between research, science, resource management and policy making, by for example communicating research findings to local policy makers for more informed decision making. Environmental work conducted by WIO CARE includes environmental assessments, waste management, ecosystem rehabilitation and remediation, and natural resource and ecosystem management.

This , learn about 100 questions for advancing seagrass conservation in Europe!

"If more monitoring programs were to follow the Essential Ocean Variable standards, important seagrass data would become interoperable and comparable across the globe, which would greatly enhance our understanding of seagrass,” says Lina Mtwana Nordlund, GOOS Biology and Ecosystems Panel member and lead co-author of the recently published paper.

We anticipate that the production of the set of 100 questions will support future research and help direct funding priorities. 👏
