Haiti Clean Water for Northern Haiti
When we were in Cap Haitien, Haiti in 2012 it was obvious that the people of Cap Haitien had many needs. Waste management, latrines and clean drinking water. Almost 60% of Haitians live below the poverty line of $2.41 a day, and millions struggle to find clean drinking water. We wanted to serve God not only spiritually but also in a tangible way and to serve o
ur brethren, so through prayer we decided to do something, no matter how small, about clean water. We researched what had been done in the area for clean water and what would be a practical way to bring clean water. We found that many wells had been dug but most were in disrepair or contaminated. We also learned about the BioSand water filter which is a simple natural way to filter water. It is being used all over the world including Port au Prince, but not in northern Haiti. The BioSand Water Filter uses sand and gravel to filter water. Each filter serves 10 people for 10 years. We presented the BioSand Water Project idea to our Haitian partners and they were in agreement that this would be beneficial. We formed Haiti Clean Water which consists of Americans and Haitians in a partnership team. The stateside team provides the resources and the Haitian team implements the project. We work together for accountability. At this time we our Haitian partners are employing 5 Haitian people to prepare, install and maintain the biosand filters. Each filter costs $150 which includes employment for 5 Haitians. Without the Haitian workers we would have to ship sand and gravel which would be very expensive. We are looking for people who would like to provide clean drinkable water to our brothers and sisters in Haiti. Are you willing to help? You can give clean water to a family of up to 10 people for $150 dollars. Or any amount will help to add filters in Northern Haiti. To donate or for more information contact:
