Gift of Sight is back! 👓

Earlier this month, we completed the first two school screenings under this year’s Gift of Sight programme, teaming up once again with the Rotary Club of USJ and new partner Focus Point Vision Care Group to bring free eye screenings to more than 180 B40 students across two primary schools. Following the screenings, 58 students are set to receive prescription spectacles. 🙌

For some students, being able to see the whiteboard clearly can make a meaningful difference in helping them stay focused in class and support their learning. For others, it may be the first time a vision issue has been identified, allowing them to get the support they need sooner.

At one of the sessions, two volunteers from our strategic partner, Mah Sing Group, joined us to help usher students to their screening stations and assist them in choosing their spectacle frames. With a range of colours and styles to choose from, the students had fun picking out their new frames. 😊

In the coming months, the students will receive their new spectacles. With the first two schools screenings completed, we look forward to bringing Gift of Sight to more students who may need support with their vision. 🌟

Did you know that over 6,000 tonnes of edible food is thrown out daily in Malaysia?*
On Wednesday, we teamed up with our strategic partners, Mah Sing Group and The Lost Food Project (TLFP), to do something about food waste, one rescued vegetable at a time. 🥬🧅

Together, they helped clean and sort over 3,845 kilograms of rescued produce, equivalent to 10,985 meals. The food will be redistributed to numerous charities, helping to feed people in need instead of ending up in landfills, therefore preventing 9,612 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions.🌏

Before getting their hands dirty, MSians first learned about food waste in Malaysia and how TLFP rescues good food from going to waste. Soon after the briefing, they got to see that work in action as freshly rescued produce from the morning markets arrived at the warehouse, from cabbages, leafy greens and spring onions to other fresh vegetables, ready to be sorted and prepared for redistribution.

Buckets were carried and pushed, vegetables were inspected and cleaned (with a worm or two making an appearance!), and edible produce was packed neatly for the next morning’s redistribution. 🥕🫑

It was an evening of learning, laughter and plenty of teamwork. Thank you to our MSians and the TLFP team for putting their hearts into action and helping good food go further. 🌟

In the rural communities of Kota Belud, gravity water systems have long been part of everyday life. For decades, families have relied on the region’s mountainous landscape to channel water from natural sources to their homes. 💧🏡

This year, Mah Sing Foundation and Hopes Malaysia completed our fifth Gravity Water Project in Kampung Melangkap Datau, bringing more reliable water access to 265 villagers.

This was truly a community effort. Over 20 villagers joined each work session, putting in the hard work to repair and improve their existing system, including 8 kilometres of piping repaired and replaced with new, durable polypiping. Along the way, they gained the knowledge to maintain it, and continue to monitor the system today. 👨‍🔧

The project also connected a new water source, giving the village two sources to better meet its needs. 2 new centralised water tanks were installed on reinforced cement platforms and can be filled in around 20 minutes! 🌟

With a consistent water supply in place, 15 families will now take part in the Sustainable Farming Project, creating new opportunities for food security and livelihoods.

A child who once recognised only a few letters has gone on to recognise them all. A child who was once hesitant to read aloud has become more confident participating in class. 📚

At Mah Sing Foundation, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to develop strong literacy skills. Being able to read, write, and speak with confidence can open up new opportunities for children to learn and grow in the world. That is why literacy has remained an important part of our education work, particularly in supporting underserved children.

From our long-standing programmes, such as KidzREAD with Yayasan Generasi Gemilang and Projek BacaBaca with Taylor's University's School of Education, to our latest collaborations, English Lab with Forest Interactive Foundation and Play for Literacy with Pemimpin, we continue to work with partners to strengthen children’s literacy skills and foster a love for learning, helping them learn and grow both in and beyond the classroom. This year, our literacy programmes are supporting over 500 underserved students nationwide. 👨🏼‍🎓

On International Literacy Day, we are reminded of the importance of literacy as a foundation for children to learn, grow, and reach their potential. We celebrate the progress that happens one word, one page, and one step at a time, and the people who help make those moments possible. 🙌

Take a trip down memory lane with us as we look back on the WOWED journey so far! 🚶🏻‍♀️

Our Women Entrepreneurship Development (WOWED) Programme, in collaboration with Women Of Will, is nearing the end of its third cohort, with 50 participants from PA Desa Rejang and PPR Jelatek set to graduate this year. 🙌

Since 2025, the participants have built their skills, strengthened their businesses, and supported one another along the way. From digital marketing and financial literacy to skills development, they’ve been putting what they’ve learnt into practice, whether it’s revamping their products, refreshing their business logos, or finding new ways to connect with customers.

And the progress is showing. As of February 2026, 72% of participants experienced economic improvement, including an average 23% increase in business income, alongside improvements in household income and monthly savings. ✨

Beyond building their entrepreneurial skills, WOWED also encourages participants to give back and create positive change within their own communities. As the main programme draws to a close, participants are moving into their community project phase, where they will identify community needs and take the lead in planning and implementing projects to address them, using a community fund they have contributed to throughout the programme.

We’re proud to be part of their journey and look forward to celebrating their achievements, sharing their stories, and seeing the impact they continue to create.💜

Building stronger families starts with creating space to communicate, understand emotions and support one another ✨

This is at the heart of the Keluarga Akrab Mencapai Impian (K.A.M.I) Programme, which supports mental well-being, emotional resilience and stronger family relationships in underprivileged communities. In collaboration with our partner, Thrive Well, the programme began in PPR Raya Permai in July with a two-day family workshop.

Held across two Saturdays, the workshop brought together 11 families to explore ways of understanding and managing emotions through guided discussions and activities. The sessions also created a safe space for families to share their experiences and learn from one another.

Communication is more than knowing how to speak and listen. How we express ourselves can shape how our words are received, while the right tools can help us recognise and manage our emotions. During the workshop, families had the opportunity to put these skills into practice while reflecting on how they communicate, manage emotions and support one another. 💬

With the family workshop now concluded, the K.A.M.I Programme will continue later this month with K.A.M.I Sembang, a series of more in-depth parent sessions. Covering topics such as relaxation techniques and understanding and changing behaviours, the sessions aim to support parents in enhancing their emotional well-being and building peer support within the community. 💙
