How do the politicians aim to increase the number of cancer trials in Norway?

🔥 Karl Kristian Bekeng (Arbeiderpartiet), Kjersti Toppe (Senterpartiet), Kristian August Eilertsen (Fremskrittspartiet/Progress Party) and Bård Ludvig Thorheim (Høyre) went head-to-head in a heated debate about cancer trials during Fremtidens kreftbehandling at Litteraturhuset in Oslo yesterday.

Key questions raised:
🚨 Does the value of a quality-adjusted life year (QALY) need to be raised to attract more trials?
🚨 Do we need to see clinical trials in relation to building the Norwegian health industry?
🚨 How can patients living in remote parts of Norway be included in trials?

The debate in the recording is in Norwegian.

Politicians agree that Norway needs more clinical studies in cancer but are at odds as to how to reach the goals.

"We will be leading; we will be the best.” Jan Christian Vestre, Minister of Health and Care Services, made some bold promises when he presented the revised action plan for clinical studies at the Norwegian Radium Hospital yesterday.

Three of his main promises were:
🔬 To make clinical research an integrated part of all patient treatment
🌎 Norway will become one of the most attractive countries for clinical studies in Europe
🚀 And will provide the easiest access to health data in the Nordics.

A central focus area was collaboration between the health services and industry. Vestre highlighted that Nortrials will be developed, along with the national feasibility portal, as well as, closing the gap between clinical trials and Nye metoder.

A new governmental plan makes bold promises to attract clinical studies to Norway, but will it deliver?

How are healthy cells distinguished from cancer cells?

This is not a question most teenagers are faced with, but in our school collaboration project, students are regularly sent out on unusual placements to inspire careers in medicine, research and entrepreneurship. In the latest update, you can read about how four Ullern Upper Secondary School (Ullern VideregĂĄende skole) students were invited to the Department of Pathology at The Radium Hospital, where they learnt to handle and prepare human tissue samples.

We are so proud of the brilliant students participating in the project and thankful to all enthusiastic members and partners who contribute to its success!

Read the article written by Elisabeth Andersen, Kirkeng in Norwegian below.

Fire videregående-elever fra Ullern tilbrakte to dager på patologiavdelingen på Radiumhospitalet. Det skulle vise seg å bli noe av det mest spennende de hadde gjort, og ga dem bekreftelse på videre utdanningsløp.

📸 Cancer Crosslinks 2026 — in pictures!

Cancer Crosslinks turns 18 in 2026 — one of Norway’s longest-running cancer research meeting series. This year’s conference brought together world-leading experts, clinicians and researchers to Oslo Cancer Cluster Innovation Park on 22 January, with over 200 participants attending the educational sessions in person.

From precision cancer medicine and AI in pathology, to deep genome sequencing and novel theranostics, the programme showcased cutting-edge science and translational insights that are shaping the future of oncology.

We’ve published a picture show highlighting the energy, discussions and collaborations from the day — featuring keynote talks, full auditoriums and networking moments that reflect the vibrancy of our oncology community. Recordings of the sessions will be shared soon on the event website.

Cancer Crosslinks turns 18 years in 2026, making it one of the best-established cancer meeting series in Norway. This is what it looks like.
