Plumas Lake Citizens for Responsible Taxes and Bonds

The Plumas Lake Community will see FIVE local school bonds and ONE State School Bond on their November ballots. The Plumas Lake Elementary School District will again be placing 3 school bonds on the November 2024 ballot. The PLESD Board claims to have the community sentiment at heart, yet they continue to attempt bond measures that the community has repeatedly rejected. Wheatland High School will be placing 2 school bonds on the November ballot, specific to Plumas Lake. A school bond is a tax and will increase property taxes. We cannot continue to pay higher property taxes that will not end for decades, with new ones sure to be requested in subsequent years. The costs of housing, gas, utilities, food, insurance (car, homeowners and medical) continue to increase, and household incomes have not kept up with inflation. Over 41% of students in the Plumas Lake Elementary School District live in a home setting that qualifies for reduced or free meals; Can these families really afford more taxes? The State’s School Facility Bond Program (matching funds for bonds) is out of funds. The school districts are counting on the State School Bond passing in November. Why isn’t the Plumas Lake School District looking at other options? Modify existing schools? Add classrooms space? Increase development fees? Both Marysville Joint Unified and Yuba City Unified recently announced that they will be increasing developer fees for facilities due to overcrowding. Year-Round School Schedule? Unifying with Wheatland High School? Property taxes in Plumas Lake are already higher than most local areas. Any increase in property values from building new schools will be offset by increased property taxes. Higher property taxes will increase the overall cost of buying/owning a home in Plumas Lake, which will push buyers out of the market, and they will buy in other areas with lower taxes. This will lead to a decrease in demand, which leads to a decrease in home prices. Current Plumas Lake Voter Approved Taxes, Taxing Agency Direct Charges and Special Assessments (does not include actual property tax):
YCCD – Yuba College Bond – Will mature and be paid off in 2050 – 26 more years to pay

WUHS – Wheatland High School Bond –

RD784 – Levee Assessment
CSA #66 – County Service Area –
OPUD – CFD - #2002 –

For those that claim opponents of additional bonds do not support education – this is simply not true. We do support education and education should include lessons in fiscal responsibility and budgeting. Plumas Lake property owners, within the district boundaries, are currently paying on SIX (6) school bonds. Most of those bonds will mature (paid off) for another 25 plus years. If the proposed school bonds pass in November, we will be paying on ELEVEN school bonds! EXAMPLES OF CURRENT TOTAL PROPERTY TAX STATEMENTS INCLUDING VOTER APPROVED TAXES/ASSESSMENTS/FEES IN PLUMAS LAKE:

HOUSE #1 – County Values and Taxes - $2400.00 – Voter approved Taxes/Assessments - $1500.00 - TOTAL= $3900.00
HOUSE #2 – County Values and Taxes - $4100.00- Voter approved Taxes/Assessments - $2700.00 - TOTAL = $6800.00
HOUSE $3 - County Values and Taxes - $3600.00- Voter approved Taxes/Assessments - $1800.00 - TOTAL = $5400.00

And let’s not forget that those purchasing the new homes will receive a substantial supplemental property tax bill shortly after closing escrow. We can not afford higher property taxes and house payments!! Enough is enough!

New property tax statements are arriving.💲💲
We have received several messages from community members that their tax bills have increased. It could be for various reasons.

But, keep in mind that every school bond that is passed will increase your property tax liability.

I pay for 19 different fees and permits to put one bottle of olive oil on the shelf and for the privilege to display FARMER as my title on the ballot. I’m the only farmer in this race and I’m ready to get to work for you!

NATIONAL FARMERS DAY

Our nation is stronger when farmers and ranchers have the resources, tools and freedom to do what we do best: feed our nation and our economy. Bonds and taxes hurt farmers. It isn’t “$5 a month” or a “cup of coffee” for a farmer, as some want you to believe. Every acre of their farm land will be bonded. Take a look at the boundaries of the PLSD map. There’s a whole lot of farm land in this district!

Protect our farmers.

Whoops! Looks like there is no ballot argument in favor of Measure H.
Hmmmm Maybe all of those have been used up over the years.

Or, maybe they think this is a slam dunk!

A local school bond measure should not be seen as a referendum on whether education matters. Your vote does not mean you do or do not value education. It does not mean that you don’t like kids or babies (that is ridiculous).

Voters and tax payers should ask questions, weigh tradeoffs, and come to a decision that works for them. It is good for a community to have those conversations, respectfully.

But, that’s not happening. Already community members that are opposed to Measure H are being told to MOVE among other mean and nasty things. That’s outrageous. Perhaps those suggesting that, should move!

The same people as always are pushing this school bond while giving the expected misinformation. Do your own homework.

Disagreeing about a school bond does not mean disagreeing about the importance of education.

Your vote does not mean you do or do not value education.

Look at your tax statements.
Look at your household budget.

You are already paying on 6 school bonds (including the Mello Roos charge to build the original 3 schools).

Measure H will be the 7th bond on our tax statement, and there will be more bonds needed to complete the buildout of the Jr High.

Every bond increases your property taxes.

Keep in mind that we are already paying on 6 school bonds (which includes the Mello Roos charges from the original 3 schools built in Plumas Lake).

Every school bond increases your property taxes for another 30 plus years.

Thanks for the No on H sign requests.
And, feel free to ask questions. Don’t be pressured into voting for another tax.
