Tshwane Emergency Services Leads Winter Safety Drive

The City of Tshwane Emergency Services is hosting a Winter Season Preparedness Workshop with the Fire Protection Association and key stakeholders to strengthen coordination ahead of the high-risk winter period.

The workshop focuses on improving readiness, enhancing collaboration, and promoting proactive measures to reduce veld and wildland fire risks in areas such as Centurion, Bronkhorstspruit, Cullinan, and surrounding regions.

Discussions include fire safety compliance, coordinated response strategies, and the effective use of the Incident Command System (ICS), supported by a practical tabletop exercise to simulate real-life scenarios.

Together, we can protect lives, property, and the environment through shared responsibility and preparedness.

Apiesrivier FPA celebrates 20 years today! 🎉🔥

Apiesrivier BBV was officially registered on 27 March 2006 with the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries – a proud history of 20 years of service, dedication, and cooperation.

A big thank you to every member, supporter and Tshwane Fire Department who has contributed over the years. Your hard work and contribution truly makes a difference in the community.

A special celebration will take place during the 2026 Annual General Meeting. FPA members will be kept informed of further arrangements.

Bushfire Assist Campaign - Protection for Habitat and Wildlife

The approaching peak bushfire season in South Africa poses enormous challenges for protected areas, emergency services, and wildlife. Extreme heat, drought, and shifting winds massively increase the risk of uncontrolled fires, with direct consequences for habitats and endangered species.

With the Bushfire Assist Campaign, 22nd Wild Life is deploying a delegation of 15 specialized personnel to South Africa. The aim is to actively support local forces during the most critical phase of the fire season, strengthen existing structures, and protect particularly sensitive reserves from fire.

Our work is practice-based and proven:
Over the past two years, together with our partners, we have fought more than 66 fires (including 3 fires that severely threatened the reserve), contained their spread, and thus preserved wildlife, protected areas, and habitats. These operations demonstrate that early intervention, training, and structured firefighting are crucial to preventing greater damage.

The collected donations go directly to:

-Fuel and logistics

-Maintenance and operational readiness of the vehicles

Protective equipment and consumables

-the immediate operational readiness of our teams on site

Every contribution helps to act in time, before a fire becomes a catastrophe.
With your support, we can intervene where protection is most urgently needed.

Together we actively protect habitats.

To all members and stakeholders

It is with a touch of sadness, but also with great pride and excitement, that we share with you the wonderful new opportunity that has come the way of one of the SBBV’s founding members and a dedicated honorary member for the past 17 years.

As most of you know, Johan Botha and his wife Mariet are well known to many in our community. Mariet has always been Johan’s – or as we all know him, “Boats” – loyal supporter and partner on this journey.

Johan Botha, a forensic accountant, former President of the Institute of Professional Accountants, mentor and advisor to many, and the founder of the Sinoville Firefighting Association, has played an extraordinary role in our organisation and in the broader community over many years. His leadership, wisdom, and commitment have left a lasting mark on all of us.

The time has now come for us to say a temporary farewell.

We are incredibly proud to share that Johan’s exceptional talent and expertise have not gone unnoticed. New international doors have opened where his specialised knowledge is highly valued.

Over the past year, Mariet and Boats have travelled abroad frequently for work and have built relationships with key role players in New Zealand. It was there that Johan’s abilities once again stood out, and he has now been invited to apply his expertise there for the next six months.

We trust that you will understand that Johan will not simply step away from the work and commitments he holds dear. Where possible, he will continue to stay involved and remain faithful to his responsibilities whenever needed.

As a community, we want to wish Johan and Mariet only the very best for this exciting new chapter. We pray that God’s hand of protection will be over them as they take on this journey. May it be filled with success, new experiences, and also moments of well-deserved rest.

We also hope that this season will allow them precious time with their children and grandchildren — moments that are truly the greatest treasures in life.

Johan and Mariet, you will always remain part of our SBBV family. We thank you for your years of dedication, leadership, and friendship. It is an honour to celebrate this incredible opportunity with you, and we wish you every success as you embrace this new adventure.
