If you’re thinking about buying a home, you may have a lot of questions that come up along the way. One question we often hear is: What should I expect during my first meeting with a housing counselor?

During your first meeting, a housing counselor will:

🔸Review your financial situation
🔸Discuss your housing goals
🔸Explore possible options to help you move forward.

Together, you will develop a plan of action tailored to your needs and circumstances.

Housing counseling is designed to help you better understand your options and feel more confident about the steps ahead, whether you are preparing to buy your first home or looking for guidance on your housing situation. Learn more about our services and resources: https://acrha.org/

Spring is a great time to check in on your home after the challenges of winter weather. Regular maintenance can help rural homeowners protect their homes, avoid costly repairs, and maintain a safe living environment.

Here are a few spring maintenance tips to consider:

🔸Check your roof for missing shingles or winter damage.
🔸Clean out gutters and downspouts to prevent water buildup.
🔸Inspect foundations and exterior walls for cracks.
🔸Schedule a check for heating systems used heavily during winter.

Taking a little time now can help prevent bigger issues later in the year.
Albany County Rural Housing is proud to serve as a trusted resource for rural homeowners looking to keep their homes safe and well-maintained. Learn more about our housing resources: https://acrha.org/

Buying a home comes with a lot of advice, and unfortunately, a lot of myths too. That’s why we wanted to share a homebuying myth vs. fact this month to help separate fact from fiction.

Myth: You need a 20% down payment to buy a home.

Fact: Many homebuyers qualify for programs that require much lower down payments. Some options may even allow qualified buyers to purchase with minimal upfront costs.

Understanding the realities of homeownership can make the process much more achievable than many people realize. Through our homebuyer education programs, we help future homeowners learn about budgeting, mortgages, credit, and the steps involved in purchasing a home.

If you have ever wondered whether homeownership might be possible for you, learning the facts is the first step. Learn more about our programs and upcoming workshops: https://acrha.org/

If our work has helped you, or you’d simply like to help others on their path to safe, affordable housing, consider paying it forward with a donation. Your support helps more families access education, counseling, and guidance when they need it most. Donate here: https://go.levitate.ai/?s=9957AVvpv1&source=donationSurvey
