*****Mel and May, trail ladies extraordinaire, are now available for adoption!
MEL (Paint with blaze)
🏅Courteous Companion | 🏅Barn Basics 🏅Groundwork Guru 🏅 Riding Readiness
Adoption Fee: $1500
This pretty paint is a western girl through and through! She is a perfectly average 14.2ish height, and a peppy 24 years old, walking out eagerly to hit the trail! She has lots of experience and a great, calm demeanor.
Likes:
German muffins, a cool fall day, stopping for grass, showing off her pep in her step!
What she can do:
Stands beautifully for grooming and tacking in the cross ties. Lunges well and goes forward under saddle with just some light leg. She has worked out in the arena alone just fine, but does seem like she would likely prefer having a buddy with her although remains calm even when her friends are calling for her. She seems to love trail and is forward moving and prefers to lead, though she will follow if asked.
What she is working on:
As an older girl headed into winter, we would like to add some muscle and a touch of weight to her, but otherwise this girl is all set! She’s got some age related mild arthritis but she doesn’t let that slow her down and likely would find comfort in slow and steady work.
Her ideal home:
On a lead line or in the arena under instruction, she could be a lovely beginner horse. Out on the trail she is more like a confident intermediate. She went out alone also with very little encouragement. Any time she was unsure on the trail, she never once spooked, she would just stop and look for support from her rider to continue forward, but did need that active confidence and encouragement to continue forward.

MAY (Bay with small star)
Adoption Fee: $1500
🏅Courteous Companion | 🏅Barn Basics 🏅Groundwork Guru 🏅 Riding Readiness
Miss May is a beautiful bay 24 year old Quarter Horse puppy dog, standing around 14.2 hands tall! This girl could stand around with you and get loved on all day. She’ll tell you where all her favorite itchy spots are and in return will gently groom you right back with her funny little upper lip.
She’s a sweet girl who we’re still getting to know but so far seems to have been around the block and has all her basic skills down pat!
Likes:
Her withers scratched, grooming her pasture buddies, grooming her people buddies (ever so gently with just her top lip!), slow and easy rides.
What she can do:
May stands beautifully at the mounting block and will wait patiently
until you tell her to walk on! She’s got a western neck rein and knows it well. She steps out on the trail but is very content to follow another horse leading. Out on the trail she saw cars, 4x4s, bikes, water, loud dogs, and much more with not a single spook. If she is nervous she simply stops and asks quite sweetly to turn around and go the other way, and if encouraged gently by her rider, pushes through with no trouble. She was willing to go out on the trail alone but seems to prefer to follow behind.
What she is working on:
Cross ties (particularly in a barn) don’t seem to be her favorite, but she has been improving. She also stood fairly well being simply ground tied with little wiggling.
Her ideal home:
May could be a great beginner horse for a young rider learning in an arena, and even out on the trail if she was following a lead horse, she could teach a beginner rider as long as they had a little confidence and were willing to actively ride. She has a beautiful level head and is an excellent experienced trail mount.
****Mel and May arrived at the rescue together and have been together for a number of years. While Horse North will never require or guarantee that a horse pair goes together, if an adopter was interested in both, that would certainly be taken into careful consideration!
