Junubi Peace Initiative

I am Junubi is a youth-led campaign that is centred on celebrating the cultural diversity in South Sudan. It was launched as a response to the tribal fuelled violence that ignited in Juba. It was launched with an ambition to change the dangerously divisive rhetoric that continues to fuel the ongoing conflict in South Sudan.

Between 1955 and 2005, a coalition of South Sudanese tribes united together to demand autonomy and freedom. Today, the same tribes are fighting each other. The campaign aims to sensitize young people to the value of cultural diversity, through an integrated approach that combines social media and social events. We will be facilitating Youth Forums based on the ideals of intercultural dialogue, with our shared history and heritage at the core.

Our objective is to strengthen and foster a shared sense of ownership and belonging for all South Sudanese. By enhancing the knowledge of young people about our culture, encouraging critical thinking as a tool for peace, and introducing a narrative geared towards an inclusive society, we can contribute to sustainable peace in South Sudan.
